Job Description
The Safety and Compliance Manager will execute and enforce corporate occupational health and safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety management and operations at a large-scale automotive manufacturing facility in Vance, AL.
This role will work onsite at a major Mercedes-Benz manufacturing facility that produces vehicles for markets around the world. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on safety professional who can effectively communicate safety expectations, conduct training and audits, identify workplace hazards, and partner with site leadership and employees to maintain a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities and Job Duties:

  • Prepare and maintain the Site-Specific Operations and Safety Plan (SSOSP).
  • Develop, maintain, and implement safety SOPs and Task Instruction Sheets (TIS).
  • Ensure delivery of corporate health and safety training to newly hired personnel and recurrent training for existing employees.
  • Validate employee training, knowledge, skills, and competency by conducting Safety Observation Tours.
  • Develop and deliver job-specific safety training to affected personnel.
  • Mentor employees and enforce on-the-job safety requirements, including regulatory requirements, customer requirements, company policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Conduct routine site safety briefings and meetings with management and field staff.
  • Conduct audits to identify and control hazardous workplace conditions, including Safety Observation Tours, equipment inspections, and compliance audits against SSOSP and TIS requirements.
  • Conduct environmental and OSHA compliance activities as required.
  • Perform respirator fit testing, as trained and required.
  • Prepare incident reports and conduct investigations, including safety stand-down meetings, final incident investigation reports, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Assist with the assessment and procurement of safety supplies, equipment, small tools, and services to ensure adequate supplies are available and maintained in good working condition.
  • Maintain and promote proper use of safety equipment, including air monitors, fall protection and retrieval equipment, respirators, and lockout/tagout equipment.
  • Participate in operational planning meetings and job-site walk-throughs to identify and control potential hazards.
  • Train and qualify employees on powered industrial equipment, including forklifts, burden carriers, electric pallet lifts, industrial carts, and similar equipment.
  • Run SSRS reports to ensure employees are current with medical monitoring, safety training, and equipment permitting requirements.
  • Routinely report to site leadership on the effectiveness of the site safety program.
  • Conduct safety briefings and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in Safety Operations within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong environmental and OSHA compliance experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining safety SOPs and related safety documentation.
  • Experience conducting safety briefings, meetings, audits, and safety observations.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices, including:
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Industrial cleaning
    • Fall protection
    • Confined space
    • Powered industrial equipment
    • Respiratory protection
    • Workplace hazard identification and control
  • OSHA certification/training.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, management, and site leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Industry-specific training such as OSHA 10/30-Hour, HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT-HazMat, Confined Space Rescue, First Aid/CPR, and Fire Safety is preferred.
  • Certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, or COSS are a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Safety, Environmental, or a related field is preferred.
  • This is an onsite position; remote work is not available.
  • Relocation assistance is not available.
  • Candidates who are not overly senior for the position are preferred.
