The Planet Group is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Consultant - CIH for a growing company in the Environmental Health & Safety / Industrial Hygiene consulting industry. Qualified candidates must have an active CIH certification, 5-10+ years of EHS experience, a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field, and hands-on experience with air, noise, chemical, and industrial hygiene exposure monitoring. Candidates with professional consulting experience and experience supporting third-party clients are strongly preferred.
Job Description
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety Consultant will report to a Regional EHS Director and provide environmental health and safety consulting services to assigned clients throughout the Greater Boston area. This is a project-based consulting position that offers flexibility to work from home when not traveling to client sites.
The consultant will also participate in client development activities and will spend approximately 20% of their time supporting client development initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities

• Measure occupational and environmental hazards, including noise and ergonomics, using calibrated scientific equipment and established procedures.
• Collect samples of dust, vapors, gases, and other potential exposures according to defined operating procedures.
• Conduct air, noise, chemical, and industrial hygiene exposure monitoring.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of engineered control systems, including fume hoods and ventilation systems.
• Inspect and examine machinery and equipment, including lifting devices, machine guards, scaffolding, and other workplace systems.
• Conduct workplace safety inspections and evaluate the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, protective eyewear, hardhats, and other required PPE.
• Interact with employees and observe work activities to identify potential safety and health hazards.
• Identify potential accident and health hazards, including toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas-air mixtures, and assist with implementing appropriate control measures.
• Evaluate and recommend adjustments to ventilation systems and other engineering controls when necessary.
• Investigate accidents and injuries, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate corrective and remedial actions.
• Communicate directly with client personnel regarding workplace safety issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Conduct routine EHS safety training, including new employee orientation, hazard communication, forklift/fork truck training, and other safety programs independently.
• Prepare written reports, including accident investigation reports, and complete required OSHA recordkeeping documentation.
• Assist with developing and maintaining occupational health and safety management systems, including policies, procedures, manuals, and related documentation.
• Design and implement industrial hygiene sampling strategies using accepted methodologies and standards, including NIOSH, OSHA, and ACGIH.
• Support client relationships and participate in business development activities.
• Travel to client sites throughout the Greater Boston area as project needs require.

• Active Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly the American Board of Industrial Hygiene).
• 5-10+ years of professional experience in an EHS, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related capacity.
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field.
• Hands-on experience conducting air, noise, chemical, and industrial hygiene exposure monitoring.
• Experience collecting and analyzing occupational exposure samples, including dust, vapors, gases, and other workplace hazards.
• Knowledge of applicable EHS regulations, industry standards, and accepted industrial hygiene methodologies, including NIOSH, OSHA, and ACGIH.
• Experience evaluating engineering controls, ventilation systems, and/or fume hoods.
• Strong workplace inspection, hazard identification, accident investigation, and corrective action experience.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with client personnel and employees at all levels.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
• Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Prior experience serving as a professional EHS advisor or consultant to third-party clients.
• Completion of two or more industry-recognized safety or hazardous materials training programs, such as OSHA 10/30, ABSA, HAZWOPER, or DOT/IATA HAZMAT Transportation.
• Active membership in a national professional safety organization and/or local chapter.
• Experience working in Life Sciences, laboratory, manufacturing, construction, or other highly regulated environments.
• Candidates with more than 10 years of relevant EHS experience will also be considered.

• This is a project-based consulting role supporting clients throughout the Greater Boston area.
• The position is preferably based in the Boston/Greater Boston area.
• The consultant will have flexibility to work from home when not traveling to client sites.
