Job Title:  Safety & Health Specialist 
Location Monroe MI 48161
Contract:  12 month
Pay: $43-47.00 Per hour DOE
Safety Specialist

The Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures. This role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations while partnering with employees and management to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct workplace inspections and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-miss events and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Track safety performance metrics and prepare reports for management.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, and hazard evaluations.
  • Partner with supervisors and management to promote and strengthen a positive safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate records related to training, inspections, incidents, and regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate safety committee meetings and employee safety engagement initiatives.
  • Recommend, implement, and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives as needed.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in workplace safety, EHS, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 30-Hour Certification, or similar credential.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with safety management systems and compliance reporting.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk production floors, construction sites, or industrial facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional travel between facilities or worksites may be required.
