Job Description

Join an established engineering organization that specializes in delivering innovative electrical protection and control solutions for utility and industrial clients. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Relay Engineer looking to expand technical leadership responsibilities while working on challenging power system projects in a collaborative environment.

In this role, you will design, develop, and support protective relay systems, substation control schemes, and relay/control panels from concept through commissioning. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contribute to project planning and execution, develop technical documentation, and help ensure high-quality project delivery.

This position offers long-term career growth, technical development, and the opportunity to work with modern protective relay technologies, power system studies, and substation automation platforms. Employees begin onsite for training and collaboration before transitioning into a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or Protection & Controls preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of protective relay or power systems engineering experience
  • Previous experience leading engineering projects or project teams
  • Experience designing substation protection and control systems
  • Strong understanding of protective relay applications and coordination studies
  • Experience programming and testing microprocessor relays (SEL, GE, Schneider/Easergy, or similar platforms)
  • Experience with protection and control drawings including schematics, single-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Working knowledge of communication protocols including DNP3 and IEC 61850
  • Familiarity with SCADA, automation systems, and relay communications
  • Experience with coordination studies, fault analysis, and power system protection
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, or similar power system analysis software
  • Arc Flash Study experience
  • Utility or industrial field engineering experience
  • Formal coursework or advanced training in protective relaying
