Location: Greer, SC preferred; Augusta, GA, Knoxville, TN, or Pittsburgh, PA may be considered
Pay Range: $68-$80/hr. during contract; $145K-$170K when direct, DOE
Work Hours: Core hours are 9:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday-Thursday and 9:00-11:30 AM Friday. Flexible schedules are available.
Type of Employment: Contract-to-Hire - 6 months (1,040 hours) or Direct Hire

The Planet Group is currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for a growing company in the industrial engineering and construction industry. Qualified candidates must have 12+ years of electrical engineering experience with industrial, chemical, or manufacturing design experience, including experience leading project teams or mentoring junior staff. Experience with medium- and low-voltage power systems, grounding, lighting, auxiliary systems, hazardous area classification, and electrical design in heavy industrial or chemical plant environments is highly preferred. 

Job Description
The Lead Electrical Engineer will perform a wide variety of electrical engineering work throughout the planning and design phases of complex industrial projects. This position will serve as the electrical discipline lead across multiple concurrent projects while providing technical direction and coordination to engineers, designers, and drafters.

Responsibilities include:
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to concurrent projects.
  • Lead electrical design and design review activities.
  • Perform engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, and field investigations.
  • Prepare technical specifications and define subcontract and equipment requisition requirements.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and coordination to engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Direct project workflow to ensure projects are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.
  • Be responsible for the technical content, quality, and functional integration of electrical project work.
  • Lead electrical discipline efforts and effectively communicate discipline-specific information to project team members.
  • Design and review medium- and low-voltage power systems.
  • Develop electrical systems for industrial, manufacturing, chemical, specialty chemical, and semiconductor facilities.
  • Perform transformer and generator sizing and specifications.
  • Apply NEC requirements, API recommended practices, grounding practices, and hazardous area classification standards.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and other engineering software.
  • Manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and work with project and discipline managers to develop contingency plans.
  • Organize and prioritize workload for yourself and other team members.
  • Interact frequently with clients, vendors, contractors, project managers, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical leadership with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in periodic project site visits and short-term field assignments as needed.
  • Support both greenfield and brownfield projects.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience as a Lead/Discipline Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • Industrial, chemical, manufacturing, or heavy industrial engineering design experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; candidates without a PE may be considered based on experience and technical qualifications.
  • Prior experience leading project teams and/or mentoring junior engineering staff required.
  • Strong experience with electrical power, grounding, lighting, and auxiliary systems, including fire alarm, security, and telecommunications.
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage power systems.
  • Experience designing and installing electrical equipment in heavy industrial and chemical plant environments.
  • Experience with transformer and generator sizing/specifications.
  • Knowledge of NEC and API recommended practices.
  • Knowledge of grounding practices and hazardous area classification.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience with both 2D and 3D project design.
  • Ability to work on both greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Strong project leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workloads for yourself and others.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to client/project sites and participate in short-term field assignments.
