Job DescriptionJoin a growing organization that develops, owns, and operates large-scale energy and industrial infrastructure projects. This is a highly visible engineering role supporting the design, commissioning, optimization, and ongoing operation of critical facilities throughout the Midwest and beyond.
The Electrical & Controls Engineer will provide technical leadership for electrical power systems, control systems, automation technologies, and plant reliability initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex projects valued at $50M+ while supporting cutting-edge energy and process facilities.
This role is primarily remote when not traveling, with site visits required throughout project lifecycles. Travel may increase during commissioning, startup activities, and plant shutdowns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization of industrial facilities.
- Review and interpret engineering deliverables including electrical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical support for PLCs, HMIs, DCS controls, SCADA systems, and related automation technologies.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Support electrical system reliability, maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems and associated control equipment.
- Assist with equipment selection, testing, site inspections, and field verification activities.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and construction teams to support project execution.
- Contribute to project cost estimating, technical evaluations, and engineering standards.
- Promote safe work practices and support site health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 5 to 10 years of engineering experience in industrial, energy, utility, or process plant environments.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, DCS controls, and SCADA systems.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Background supporting plant commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and optimization activities.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and industrial controls.
- Ability to perform site visits and travel up to approximately 30-50% as project needs require.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within renewable natural gas (RNG), power generation, natural gas processing, chemical processing, wastewater treatment, remediation, or similar industrial facilities.
- Experience supporting construction, operations, or maintenance of energy infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with industrial reliability programs, preventative maintenance systems, and process optimization initiatives.
- Experience working on large capital projects.
