Other Compensation:  Eligibility for the Short-Term Incentive program and other applicable bonuses 

We are seeking an Operations/Production Supervisor for a leading global supplier of catalysts, engineered materials and fine chemicals for their East Chicago, IN plant. We provide innovative products, technologies and services which our customers use to manufacture everyday products like renewable fuels, pharmaceuticals, toothpaste, cosmetics, food packaging, beer, edible oils and more. 

Job Description

The Operations/Production Supervisor ensures a safe working environment for all employees, plans the production workflow as directed, supervises the production employees (team of 20-25, 6-8 per shift), and ensure the goals of the business are met.

This role is part of a four-person supervisor team following a rotating schedule across two shifts (2nd & 3rd shifts) to provide 24/7 coverage.

The schedule is a blend of 8-hour and 12-hour rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays and weekends, and potential overtime. (M-F are 8 hour days
Sat/Sun are 12 hour days)

Production Schedule:
1st Cycle- ON- M, T and OFF- W, Th, F,
2nd Cycle-ON -Sat, Sun, M, T, W, OFF-Th, F, Sat, Sun

2nd Shift 3:00PM - 11:00PM

3rd Shift 11:00PM - 7:00AM

This role is on-site in East Chicago, IN and reports to the Operations Manager

Responsibilities
  • Conduct shift meetings with the operators to uphold a safe environment, review results of previous shift, set goals and expectations for next shift.
  • Conduct regular area tours to ensure employee engagement, address performance and resolve issues, ensure cleanliness of areas, and perform safety walks / inspections.
  • Develop shift reports and communicates performance / issues in area daily meetings.
  • Manage daily work assignments and operator performance management.
  • Coordinate production staffing with operations planning and in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Input maintenance work notifications and shift production results in SAP; review and authorize required work permits.
  • Ensure equipment is ready for maintenance work.
  • Input and supervise high priority maintenance work orders on off-shifts.
  • Act as operations gatekeeper to ensure productive and efficient maintenance scheduling in coordination with maintenance planner.
  • Manage team member disciplinary issues, assesses capabilities, and evaluations necessary training.
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 7 + years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Hands on mechanical experience
  • Hands on troubleshooting equipment experience
  • Experience supervising in a union environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a chemical plant or refinery
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Leadership or management experience
