Job Title: Senior Engineering Technician APG
Location: Multiple locations, Ann Arbor, Houston, Phoenix, Chicago, Jacksonville, Raleigh
Contract length: 6-Month Contract to hire
Pay: $50/hr - $56.00/hr
This opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's energy challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting advanced power generation facilities.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality 2D and 3D engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects.
Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using industry-standard design tools such as Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley applications. This role also requires advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules.
Experience with AGI32 lighting design software is preferred to support accurate lighting modeling and illumination calculations across advanced power generation facilities.
Job Summary- Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or team lead.
- Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within the electrical engineering discipline.
- Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
- Uses digital design tools (CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling software) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provides guidance, training, and technical oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
- Establish and communicate design and drafting standards.
- Review project requirements to determine appropriate deliverable formats and content.
- Promote quality and consistency across projects and design teams.
- Review design inputs for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Support the continuous improvement of design standards, processes, and best practices.
- Manage drawing control and maintain historical project documentation.
- Apply engineering principles and established design practices to complex electrical designs.
- Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and supporting documentation.
- Review work produced by other designers and technicians for quality and accuracy.
- Monitor production to help maintain project budgets and schedules.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the design process.
- Support field activities and site visits as needed.
- Communicate project requirements, schedules, and design progress to internal stakeholders.
- Assist with the training and development of junior engineering staff.
- Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field required.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Design Technology or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience with AGI32 lighting design software.
- Diploma or technical certificate required.
- Typically 11+ years of related electrical design experience.
- Experience supporting power generation or industrial facility projects.
- Advanced proficiency with Bentley MicroStation.
- Experience with 3D equipment modeling.
- Experience designing duct banks, cable tray systems, grounding systems, and lighting systems.
