Job Title: Business Analyst - Data & Reporting
Location: Dallas TX
Onsite Requirements: Hybrid onsite 3x a week
Compensation Range: $50-55/hr W2
6 month contracting role
Introduction
Our client is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support backend reporting, data analytics, and data warehouse initiatives. This individual will serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, product management, and development teams, helping translate business needs into actionable requirements and user stories.
The Business Analyst will work closely with a team of data engineers responsible for bringing data from various sources into an internal analytics data warehouse within a Databricks environment. The role will also partner with Consulting Operations business stakeholders to gather and define reporting requirements, while collaborating with the Product Owner, Project Manager, and Lead Developer to prioritize and coordinate delivery.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Serve as the liaison between end users, product management, and development teams to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements and translate them into user stories.
- Partner with the Product Owner and key stakeholders to maintain and prioritize a healthy product backlog.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning and user story refinement, and help drive productive discussions.
- Conduct gap analyses to identify cost-effective solutions that align with business requirements.
- Collaborate with data engineers and development teams to ensure solutions and designs meet customer and business requirements.
- Provide timely clarification and guidance to development and QA teams throughout design, development, and testing.
- Develop SQL queries to retrieve application data and identify, investigate, and triage data discrepancies.
- Support stakeholders and end users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), addressing questions and identifying potential solutions to issues.
- Partner with business owners and technical architects to establish strategic product direction and define project scope and effort.
- Coordinate closely with business partners and technical teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and work is delivered effectively.
- 5+ years of Business Analyst experience.
- Hands-on experience writing SQL queries, including basic queries and joins.
- Excellent business requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation skills.
- Experience with data analytics, data warehousing, and Big Data concepts.
- Experience supporting backend reporting or data-focused products.
- 4+ years of Agile business analysis experience, preferably within Scrum environments.
- Strong experience creating and managing user stories and product backlogs.
- Ability to independently lead or facilitate user story refinement sessions with Scrum teams.
- Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) or a similar Agile/project management platform.
- Experience with software testing and familiarity with testing methodologies.
- Experience working with data warehouses or data lakes.
- Experience working within a Databricks environment.
- Experience partnering with data engineering teams and technical architects.
- Experience working with reporting and analytics requirements.
