Commercial Maintenance Technician

Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Pay: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends based on service needs)

Join a Growing Facilities Maintenance Team

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Maintenance Technician to provide preventative, corrective, and general maintenance services for a portfolio of commercial properties throughout the Grand Rapids area. This field-based role offers a company vehicle, tools, and the opportunity to work independently while delivering high-quality service to a variety of customer locations.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience across multiple trades and take pride in maintaining safe, functional, and well-presented facilities.

What You'll Do General Building Maintenance
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on commercial buildings and facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and complete repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building upkeep.
  • Repair drywall, walls, doors, ceilings, and flooring as needed.
  • Complete interior and exterior touch-up work to maintain the overall appearance of properties.
  • Replace lighting components, outlets, switches, fixtures, and other building hardware within the scope of experience and licensing requirements.
  • Address minor plumbing issues including fixture repairs, clogs, valve replacements, and restroom maintenance.
Inspections & Service Documentation
  • Conduct facility inspections and identify maintenance needs.
  • Utilize mobile technology to receive, update, and close work orders.
  • Document completed work, service reports, inspection findings, and photos.
  • Manage time records, expenses, and material tracking accurately.
  • Source and obtain materials necessary to complete assigned work.
Customer Support
  • Build positive relationships with customers and property contacts.
  • Communicate repair status, recommendations, and service updates professionally.
  • Assist in identifying and estimating larger repair or maintenance projects when needed.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and meetings.
  • Perform all work in a safe and professional manner while maintaining high-quality standards.
What We're Looking For Experience
  • 2+ years of building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or skilled trades experience.
  • Experience performing basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general repair work.
  • Commercial property maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
  • HVAC troubleshooting and maintenance experience is a plus.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel locally between customer locations throughout the workday.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, and work order management systems.
Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
