Must Haves: 

  • 3-6 years of FP&A experience, including business partnering and financial modeling skills
  • High Tech industry experience( unless there is prior support of R&D/Engineering, in which case industry can be more flexible)
  • Experience supporting a specific functional area ( not just general corporate finance)
  • Expense experience
  • Headcount analysis/modeling
  • Mid-large size company background
  • Comfort working directly with stakeholders and translating financial data into language technical teams understand.
  • Systems savvy

Plus:
  • SaaS industry a plus ( understanding of SaaS metrics and how R&D investment connects to product delivery)
  • Support of R&D/Engineering/Product Management
  • PE backed company experience
  • Familiarity with software capitalization (ASC 350-40) 
  • Exposure to Hyperion or similar planning tools, plus Power BI or Tableau 
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles/GAAP

Job Description:

Senior Financial Analyst - R&D/Product
Reports To: Director, FP&A
Location: Boston, MA / Hybrid
Position Overview:
The Senior Financial Analyst - R&D/Product supports financial planning, analysis, and reporting for Research & Development and Product organizations. As a Sr. Financial Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our finance team and senior management by providing valuable insights, analysis, and recommendations to drive strategic decision-making and optimize financial performance. This role partners with Engineering and Product teams to deliver accurate forecasts, variance analysis, and financial insights that inform investment decisions, working closely with the R&D Finance Business Partner on execution of the broader planning and reporting agenda.

Centers of Excellence (COE) are teams whose primary goal is to provide expertise in a specific field. COEs will usually provide support through training, research, and skilled leaders. In our company, Centers of Excellence incorporate the Human Resources, IT, Legal and Financial fields, all of which provide support to our Product divisions and allows the enterprise to move forward and achieve its goals.

Your Impact:
· Support monthly close, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and reporting for R&D/Product cost centers, flagging risks and opportunities to the Finance Business Partner
· Assist in building and maintaining business segment-level P&L views across the company's product portfolio 
· Track capitalized vs. expensed software development costs, supporting compliance with ASC 350-40 in partnership with Accounting
· Maintain and update headcount and workforce planning models for the R&D organization, including FTE/contractor mix
· Prepare quarterly forecast and annual operating plan inputs for R&D/Product cost centers
· Build supporting analysis and business cases for feature/product investment decisions, including ROI and payback calculations
· Develop and maintain recurring KPI reporting for leadership review
· Partner with Engineering and Product stakeholders on ad hoc analysis requests and data requests
· Support process improvement initiatives to streamline forecasting, reporting, and month-end close activities
· Assist with financial due diligence and integration analysis for R&D/Product-related M&A activity as needed

What You Bring:
· Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
· 3-5 years of FP&A or accounting experience, ideally with exposure to R&D/Engineering finance in a SaaS or technology environment
· Working knowledge of software capitalization accounting & core SaaS metrics a plus
· Strong Excel/financial modeling skills; experience with planning systems (Hyperion, or similar) and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
· Comfortable partnering with technical stakeholders in a matrixed organization
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights, and collaborate effectively across functions to influence decision-making at all levels of the organization.
· PE-backed company experience a plus
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables under deadline pressure
