Work Hours: M-F, 8:00-5:00 (flex)

Job Description
The Project Engineer will serve as a key coordinator for transportation infrastructure projects, functioning as an Owner's Representative rather than a traditional field engineer. This role oversees design and construction activities, manages project schedules and deliverables, and ensures alignment between project teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Work is primarily office?based with weekly site visits and periodic meetings at WisDOT regional offices. This is a full?time, 40?hour/week assignment for the duration of the contract.
Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate design and construction activities across multiple transportation projects
  • Serve as a primary liaison between project managers, contractors, clients, and stakeholders
  • Lead teams performing contract administration and construction inspection services
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, testing documentation, and project reports
  • Perform and verify field measurements for reporting and payment purposes
  • Prepare project reports, pay applications, and related documentation
 
  • Oversee on?site materials testing (soil, aggregate, concrete)
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with specifications, safety, and regulations
  • Provide technical guidance to field personnel and project teams
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer?in?Training (EIT) required
  • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection, construction administration, or project engineering
  • Leadership experience managing field staff or construction activities
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methodologies, and industry standards
  • Experience with heavy civil, transportation, municipal, utility, or infrastructure projects preferred
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam preferred
  • Knowledge of materials testing procedures (soils, aggregates, concrete)
  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to prepare accurate technical reports and project documentation
  • Ability to work full?time in the field during construction season
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites
