Location: Overland Park, KS; Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO
Contract Length: 7-month contract
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Pay Range: $40/hr - $43.38/hr (DOE)
The Planet Group is seeking a Staff Engineering Technician - Civil to support civil engineering and site development efforts within mission critical federal projects and will contributing to the planning and design of resilient infrastructure that supports high consequence federal and national security missions.
The Staff Engineering Technician functions in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting engineering and design teams by producing and modifying technical drawings, models, and deliverables under general supervision. The role applies foundational civil engineering principles and established design practices to develop accurate, high quality site designs using digital design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate (required)
- Associate degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design-Related Technology (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
- Experience supporting civil engineering or site development design activities
- Proficiency with digital design tools such as CAD, BIM, or 3D modeling software
- Experience applying engineering standards, codes, and established design practices
- Ability to perform design calculations, quantity takeoffs, and material estimates
- Capability to handle moderately complex technical assignments within an area of expertise
- Experience reviewing technical deliverables for quality and compliance
- Ability to produce, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation
Responsibilities:
- Function in a project engineering technician capacity supporting civil engineering efforts.
- Support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction.
- Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
- Create, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation using digital tools (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling such as Autodesk Civil 3D).
- Review project requirements and determine the correct format and content of required deliverables.
- Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable project codes and standards.
- Perform design calculations, detailed material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and record documentation.
- Handle difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and provide technical guidance to other professionals and technicians.
- Review deliverables prepared by others to support quality and consistency.
- Define work assignments and maintain schedules as required.
- Coordinate with other design group personnel to exchange information necessary for design development.
- Support field activities when required.
- Focus on the needs of internal clients while understanding external client interests and drivers.
- Proactively seek and share knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
- Apply judgment and make decisions related to deliverables and interpretation of design inputs.
