Job Description

The Quality Engineer I (QE I) supports product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement at the manufacturing site. This role is responsible for timely product disposition, investigation of quality issues, effective use of quality systems, and strong collaboration with Production, Laboratory, and Technical teams. The QE I maintains an active presence on the production floor and helps ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.

 

This role is on-site in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD and reports to the Sr. Quality Manager

Responsibilities
  • Perform timely product disposition to support shipment, inventory flow, and Certificate of Analysis (CoA) availability
  • Monitor and drive improvement of quality KPIs using data-driven methods
  • Participate in cross-functional investigations, applying root cause analysis and CAPA tools; verify CAPA effectiveness
  • Maintain a regular production floor presence to ensure conformance to quality, fit-for-use, instrumentation, packaging, and labeling requirements
  • Serve as a liaison between Production, QC/Lab, and Chemists to prioritize testing, analyze trends, and ensure integrity of results
  • Support ISO 9001 QMS activities, including CAPA, internal audits, document control, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with Management of Change (MOC) activities, including Gatekeeper responsibilities
  • Manage site-specific retain samples where applicable
  • Act as backup for other QA team members for disposition activities
  • Support customer, supplier, and third-party audits as needed
  • Interface with site leadership and the broader technical community to align process capability (CPK) with CTQs and control plans
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Required Qualifications
  • Bacholors degree in Engineering (or related STEM field)
  • 0-3 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or technical roles
  • Strong commitment to Safety and Environmental compliance
  • Curiosity, strong attention to detail, and a desire to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment
  • Clear communication skills and willingness to speak up on quality and safety
  • Commitment to Safety and Environmental compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or SPC concepts
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or auditing
  • Interest in pursuing professional certifications (ASQ CQE/CQA)
