Location: Spring Hill, FL (Onsite)
Contract Duration: Long-term (approximately 2 years)
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Monday-Friday, onsite, up to 50 hours per week
Compensation: $90-$100/hour 
Per Diem: Available 


Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support a major expansion at a large-scale industrial energy facility. This role will lead all electrical commissioning activities from pre?commissioning through energization, start?up, and performance testing.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong technical depth in power systems and the ability to coordinate across engineering, construction, vendors, and operations to safely deliver complex electrical systems into service.


Key Responsibilities Commissioning Leadership
  • Lead electrical commissioning activities from system completion through start?up and performance testing
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, switching procedures, and energization sequences
  • Coordinate closely with mechanical and I&C teams to ensure integrated system readiness
  • Manage system walkdowns, punch lists, and turnover documentation
Electrical Systems Oversight
  • Oversee testing and commissioning of:
    • Medium- and high-voltage systems (switchgear, transformers, substations)
    • Power distribution equipment (switchboards, MCCs, UPS systems)
    • Generators and utility interconnections
    • Protective relaying and coordination systems
    • Grounding, lighting, and cable systems
  • Review and approve electrical test results, including megger, hi-pot, relay, and functional testing
  • Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards
Planning & Documentation
  • Develop detailed commissioning procedures, test scripts, and energization plans
  • Maintain accurate commissioning logs, test records, and system completion documentation
  • Track progress and provide regular status updates to project leadership
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
  • Interface with OEMs and vendors during factory and site acceptance testing
  • Supervise electrical contractors and third-party testing firms during commissioning
  • Ensure equipment commissioning aligns with vendor requirements and warranty conditions
Safety & Compliance
  • Lead electrical safety practices during commissioning activities
  • Enforce LOTO, arc-flash boundaries, and approved switching protocols
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70/70E, IEEE, NETA, and other applicable standards
  • Participate in hazard analyses, energization reviews, and safety audits
Energization & Start-Up
  • Lead system energization and coordinate with utility and grid partners
  • Support plant start?up activities including synchronization and load testing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and control system issues during commissioning

Qualifications Education
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered
Experience
  • 8-15+ years in electrical commissioning, start?up, or power systems engineering
  • Experience with power generation, energy, or heavy industrial facilities
  • Demonstrated leadership on large?scale capital or EPC projects
Technical Expertise
  • Power generation and distribution systems
  • Protective relaying and coordination
  • Electrical testing standards and practices (NETA, IEEE)
  • Ability to read and interpret single lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams

  • Strong leadership and coordination capabilities
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Clear communication with diverse technical and non?technical stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and perform in a fast?paced, high?stakes environment
