Job Title: Applications Engineer - Power Systems (Modernization & Solutions)
Location: Lakeland, FL (Onsite)
Compensation: $90K - $120K
Work Schedule: Full-time, onsite (M-F)
Travel: As required
Overview
A growing engineering-focused organization is seeking a detail-oriented Applications Engineer to support power systems modernization and custom solution development.
This is a hybrid technical-commercial role that works closely with sales, engineering, and project teams to evaluate opportunities, develop solutions, and deliver high-quality proposals for complex electrical infrastructure projects.
The role focuses on retrofit and modernization within live electrical systems, including data centers, utilities, and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Applications Engineering & Solution Development
- Review RFQs, specifications, and technical drawings
- Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Develop system-level solutions involving switchgear, breakers, controls, and PLCs
- Work across low and medium voltage systems
- Evaluate integration with systems such as SCADA, BMS, and HMI
Proposal Development & Commercial Support
- Develop scopes of work and technical proposals
- Build pricing models including labor, materials, and execution costs
- Align technical solutions with business and sales objectives
- Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders
Execution Planning & Costing
- Support project planning including installation, commissioning, and sequencing
- Account for field execution considerations such as demolition and system integration
- Develop realistic cost and labor assumptions
Technical & Product Support
- Apply knowledge of industry standards and switchgear systems
- Evaluate OEM vs. custom-engineered solutions
- Ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure
Process & Coordination
- Support proposal lifecycle and documentation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, project management, and field teams
- Contribute to process improvements and tracking metrics
Required Experience
- Experience with low and medium voltage power systems
- Knowledge of switchgear, breakers, and relays
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Understanding of retrofit/brownfield environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- ~3-8+ years of relevant experience
- Background in data centers, utilities, or industrial environments
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA, or BMS systems
- Strong Excel and systems (ERP/CRM) experience
