Software Engineering Manager
This senior technical leadership role sits between an Engineering Manager and Director of Engineering. The successful candidate will provide technical direction, mentor engineers, drive platform reliability, and lead the delivery of strategic engineering initiatives.
The role combines operational excellence and production stability with new product and platform development. The Engineering Manager will lead a small team and work closely with a Technical Project Manager to support Agile delivery and execution.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams or serving in a technical leadership capacity.
- Strong Java development background with experience in modern application architectures.
- Experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices-based environments.
- Strong experience supporting production applications and driving platform stability initiatives.
- Experience conducting code reviews and providing technical mentorship.
- Strong understanding of AWS cloud technologies and cloud-native application development.
- Experience working within Agile environments utilizing Jira, story points, sprint planning, and velocity tracking.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence decisions, manage expectations, and push back when necessary.
- Proven ability to lead engineering execution while remaining close to the technology.
- Experience leveraging AI tools for software development, testing, automation, or engineering productivity.
- Experience with front-end technologies such as Bootstrap, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience in startup, InsurTech, FinTech, or other high-growth technology environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience implementing observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident management solutions.
- Experience scaling engineering teams and processes within a rapidly growing organization.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
