Job Title: Radio Frequency Engineer
Location: Overland Park, KS
Contract Length: 6-month contract
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Pay Range: $50/hr - $55/hr (DOE)

The Planet Group is seeking an experienced Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer with strong expertise in Microwave (MW) transport systems, RF design, and wireless site/infrastructure engineering. This role focuses on designing, planning, engineering, and optimizing point-to-point and point-to-multipoint microwave links while supporting broader wireless system deployments across utility, industrial, and government environments.

Radio Frequency Engineer Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related communications engineering field.
  • 5+ years of wireless communications engineering experience or related.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microwave transport systems.
  • Proficiency with Pathloss 6 and Infovista Planet.
  • Experience supporting utility environments is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on microwave radio configuration experience is a plus.
  • Experience creating and delivering client-facing presentations and technical workshops.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not required.
  • Experience writing and delivering MOPs, processes, testing procedures and technical documents

Radio Frequency Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design, plan, and optimize microwave backhaul systems for capacity, reliability, and performance.
  • Perform link budget calculations, reliability analysis, and path feasibility studies.
  • Use Pathloss 6 to conduct terrain profiling, diffraction analysis, fade margin calculations, and link availability studies.
  • Design and optimize wireless networks using Infovista Planet, supporting technologies such as Narrow Band, LTE/5G, and Land Mobile Radio.
  • Conduct microwave path surveys, including LOS verification, obstacle identification, and documentation.
  • Validate MW RF designs through field surveys, site inspections, and system testing.
  • Configure and review MW radio and antenna systems, including tower loading considerations and equipment specifications.
  • Optimize systems for interference mitigation in licensed and unlicensed frequency bands.
  • Evaluate and integrate microwave radio platforms from vendors such as Nokia, Aviat, Ericsson, and others.
  • Create installation drawings, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and cost estimates for wireless solutions.
  • Document and implement site installation standards, including grounding requirements.
  • Provide guidance on construction drawings and support equipment installation and site integration.
  • Prepare and deliver MOPs, testing procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Serve as a technical specialist, communicating RF concepts to both technical and non?technical stakeholders.
  • Support RFP responses, scope definition, LOE estimation, and proposal development.
  • Collaborate with project management to meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Support business development and technical workshops as required.
