Job Description
Project Engineer - High Voltage Infrastructure
The Project Engineer will oversee the design and execution of high-voltage infrastructure projects, providing technical oversight to engineering teams responsible for detailed design activities. The role also supports engineering activities for EPC proposals and works closely with internal teams, clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee projects from inception through completion, including planning, design, permitting, construction support, and closeout.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering teams performing detailed design.
- Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for high-voltage substations and transmission line projects.
- Support engineering activities associated with EPC proposals, estimates, and project development.
- Monitor project budgets and schedules and identify opportunities for cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure project designs and execution comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, industry standards, environmental requirements, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with clients, government agencies, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Oversee quality control processes to ensure engineering deliverables, workmanship, and materials meet established standards.
- Prepare and maintain project status reports, engineering documentation, records, and other required project materials.
- Identify and resolve technical and project-related issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and completeness of engineering work.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex environment.
- Perform other engineering and project-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the electric utility industry, with experience performing detailed engineering for high-voltage substation projects.
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Strong technical background in electrical, civil, structural, or mechanical engineering.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices related to electric utility infrastructure.
- Extensive knowledge of electric utility engineering and construction standards.
- Experience with industry-specific engineering and design software.
- Familiarity with project controls, cost estimating, scheduling, and project execution processes.
- Experience supporting external customers and working directly with clients and project stakeholders.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and related standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, establish priorities, and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in situations involving ambiguity.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel may be required based on project and business needs, approximately 10-25% of the time.
Pay: $117K - 147K DOE
