Engineer II
Location: Jackson, MI
Contract: 12 months
Schedule: 40 Hours
Pay: $45-48/hour, DOE

The Planet Group is looking for an Engineer II to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on a 12-months contract, working an onsite schedule in Jackson, MI.

Engineer II | Qualifications:

  • Active State of Michigan Professional Engineer (PE) license (required for SPCC plan certification and updates).
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering principles related to environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
  • Strong working knowledge of EPA regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 112, and relevant Michigan environmental laws.
  • Experience with spill modeling tools such as the Mineral Oil Spill Evaluation System (MOSES).
  • Skilled in interpreting technical documents and producing accurate engineering drawings.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory deadlines.
Engineer II | Responsibilities: 
  • Develop, update, and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for substation facilities in compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 112.
  • Analyze engineering materials including site drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, and topographical data to support SPCC planning.
  • Design and perform calculations for stormwater management and oil containment volumes.
  • Create and revise facility diagrams using CAD and other design software to reflect SPCC requirements.
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to verify compliance with SPCC plans and ensure implementation of engineering controls.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare technical reports documenting SPCC compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with construction, operations, and environmental teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies, respond to regulatory inquiries, and represent the utility during audits.
  • Educate internal teams on spill prevention procedures and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure coordination across business units to align with federal, state, and internal environmental policies
