Senior SQL Database Administrator
Hybrid: Greater Cincinnati area
Full Time
Salary range: $105K-$140K
The Planet Group has partnered with a Cincinnati area company to locate a Senior SQL Server Production Database Administrator to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise across an enterprise database and reporting environment.
This individual will serve as a senior subject matter expert for Microsoft SQL Server, helping define database architecture, operational standards, security, performance, disaster recovery, and reporting solutions.
The ideal candidate combines deep, hands-on SQL Server administration experience with the ability to operate at an architectural level--setting technical direction, solving complex database challenges, advising development teams, and establishing standards for a large-scale production environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical architect and subject matter expert for enterprise database and reporting technologies, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server.
- Define database architecture, standards, best practices, and long-term strategies supporting enterprise technology initiatives.
- Design, implement, administer, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments running on Windows.
- Lead database performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, patching, backup/recovery, and operational support.
- Design and maintain database high-availability and disaster recovery strategies, procedures, and solutions.
- Establish and maintain database security standards, policies, and operational controls.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and third-level support for complex database and reporting issues.
- Partner with application developers, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and other technology teams to design scalable and reliable database solutions.
- Review SQL scripts and database changes as part of the application release and change-management process.
- Design and support enterprise reporting solutions using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Develop data models, dimensional structures, and related database components supporting enterprise reporting and data warehouse requirements.
- Monitor and support ETL processes for core business systems and the enterprise data warehouse.
- Develop PowerShell scripts and automation to improve database administration, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging database and reporting technologies and lead technical initiatives involving external vendors and consultants.
- Assist with the modernization and migration of legacy database solutions to established enterprise standards.
- Create and maintain database architecture, operational procedures, technical standards, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum activities and support enterprise change-management practices.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers and other technology professionals.
- 10+ years of professional information technology experience.
- 7+ years of recent, hands-on Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience in Windows Server environments.
- Expert-level SQL Server administration and architecture experience within enterprise production environments.
- Advanced experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, monitoring, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and database security.
- Experience designing and supporting database disaster recovery and high-availability solutions.
- Hands-on PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex database and production issues.
- Experience establishing technical standards and providing architectural guidance to development and technology teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Oracle database technologies.
- Experience with MySQL database technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise data warehouse and ETL environments.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
