Job Description
Senior Platform Engineer (Engineering Tooling & Analytics)
Contract-to-hire
Chicago, IL OR Minneapolis, MN
Hybrid (3 days a week)
$85-$90/hour
The Planet Group has partnered with a Chicago area company to locate a Sr. Platform Engineer with experience in Engineering Tooling and Analytics for a contract-to-hire role.
The successful candidate will serve as the technical owner for multiple engineering productivity, analytics, and AI-enabled platforms, ensuring they are properly configured, integrated with enterprise systems, and delivering meaningful operational insights across engineering and product organizations.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience implementing enterprise SaaS platforms, building integrations between business-critical systems, administering complex environments, and developing dashboards that support data-driven decision making.
This is a highly technical systems administration and platform engineering role--not a software development position.
- Lead end-to-end implementation of enterprise engineering and analytics platforms from initial deployment through production rollout.
- Configure, administer, maintain, and optimize multiple engineering productivity and product analytics platforms.
- Design, build, and support integrations with systems including source control platforms, project management tools, development lifecycle platforms, product analytics applications, enterprise data platforms, and emerging AI technologies.
- Monitor platform health, troubleshoot integration issues, and ensure high availability of critical tooling.
- Validate the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data flowing between connected platforms.
- Develop dashboards, reports, scorecards, and KPIs that provide actionable insights to engineering, product, and executive leadership.
- Support engineering organizations by onboarding new teams, configuring environments, and providing technical guidance on platform capabilities.
- Manage user provisioning, permissions, authentication, and security controls across supported platforms.
- Partner with engineering, product, architecture, data, and operations teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable tooling solutions.
- Create documentation, operational standards, best practices, and training materials to improve platform adoption.
- Deliver knowledge-sharing sessions and provide ongoing support for platform users.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for software vendors, coordinating issue resolution, upgrades, new feature evaluations, and roadmap discussions.
- Establish governance standards that promote consistent platform usage, operational controls, and compliance with organizational policies.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve platform utilization, and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Evaluate emerging engineering intelligence, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled platforms for future adoption.
- 5+ years of experience administering enterprise software platforms in a Platform Engineer, Systems Administrator, DevOps Tools Administrator, Enterprise Applications Administrator, or similar role.
- Proven experience implementing enterprise platforms from initial deployment through production support.
- Experience integrating SaaS platforms using REST APIs, webhooks, and other integration technologies.
- Strong experience administering one or more engineering or collaboration platforms such as GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, Jira, Atlassian products, product analytics platforms, or similar enterprise applications.
- Experience creating dashboards, operational reporting, and performance metrics.
- Working knowledge of SQL and data analysis concepts.
- Experience with authentication technologies including SSO and SAML.
- Strong understanding of user access management and enterprise security practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex platform and integration issues independently.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience supporting or administering modern AI-enabled enterprise platforms is highly desirable.
- Experience with engineering productivity or software delivery analytics platforms.
- Experience with product analytics and user behavior reporting tools.
- Experience integrating development lifecycle platforms with enterprise data environments.
- Familiarity with engineering performance metrics and operational reporting.
- Experience supporting DevOps, AI, observability, or cloud-based tooling ecosystems.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments.
