Senior Information Security Engineer
Onsite- Great Madison, WI area
Full time role (GC and USC's only)
Salary: $130-$150K
Relocation assistance provided.
The Planet Group has partnered with a greater Madison, Wi area company to locate a hands-on security engineer with a strong foundation in network or systems engineering and experience implementing and supporting security technologies.
The ideal candidate built their career in IT infrastructure before expanding into cybersecurity, risk, and compliance. You should be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, configuring security tools, and putting security recommendations into practice.
Responsibilities:
- Implement, manage, and improve security solutions across endpoint, identity, network, server, and cloud environments.
- Provide technical security guidance to business stakeholders and project teams, helping incorporate security into new systems, policies, and processes.
- Partner with a managed SOC to improve centralized logging, investigate alerts, and identify security incidents or misconfigured controls.
- Coordinate and respond to security incidents, including initial forensic investigation, documentation, and stakeholder communications.
- Investigate endpoint, SIEM, and phishing alerts, working directly with employees to resolve issues.
- Research and recommend practical solutions to reduce security risk and strengthen the organization's security posture.
- Support vulnerability management, patch management, and security control assessments.
- 7+ years of combined IT engineering and information security experience, including a strong network or systems background.
- Hands-on experience implementing and managing endpoint protection, SIEM, and identity management solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft security technologies, including:
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
- Microsoft Defender Vulnerability Management
- Microsoft Defender for Identity
- Microsoft Defender for Office 365
- Experience with LogRhythm, Microsoft Entra ID, and Active Directory.
- Practical knowledge of vulnerability scanners, centralized logging, multifactor authentication, SAML federation, and patch management.
- Experience supporting desktop, server, and networking environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure; AWS experience is preferred.
- A broad understanding of information security, IT auditing, and how technical controls support risk and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain security issues to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- A commitment to staying current with security technologies and continually improving processes.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- CISSP certification.
- Experience working in small to midsize organizations.
- Experience with PCI DSS, SOC 1 audits, HIPAA, or related compliance requirements.
- Experience developing or delivering security awareness programs.
