Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Central Engineering team and support the development and execution of capital projects across our manufacturing and technology facilities. Position Summary

The Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for managing and executing mechanical engineering and capital project activities from concept development through commissioning and startup. This individual will work closely with operations, maintenance, process engineering, EHS, procurement, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with project management skills to support equipment reliability, manufacturing improvements, sustainability initiatives, and business growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities for capital and expense projects within manufacturing and corporate facilities.
• Develop project scopes, engineering packages, cost estimates, schedules, and technical specifications.
• Manage projects through all phases, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
• Specify and evaluate mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping systems, reactors, storage tanks, and associated infrastructure.
• Coordinate with internal engineering disciplines and external engineering firms, vendors, and contractors.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) and Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, industry codes, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Conduct technical reviews, HAZOP participation, design reviews, and risk assessments.
• Monitor project budgets and schedules, providing regular updates to stakeholders and leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve process reliability, equipment performance, energy efficiency, and plant productivity.
• Support troubleshooting and root cause investigations for mechanical equipment issues.
• Drive a strong safety culture by ensuring projects are executed in accordance with Grace's safety expectations and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, industrial, or related process industries.
• Strong knowledge of with ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
• Experience leading capital projects in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, piping design, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, and process equipment.
• Experience managing contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common engineering software tools including AutoCAD and Navisworks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
• Experience supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated facilities.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering and maintenance best practices.
