We are seeking an experienced Owner Safety Representative to support the construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
The Owner Safety Representative will provide field-level safety oversight, monitor contractor and subcontractor performance, and help ensure construction activities comply with OSHA requirements, project safety standards, and owner expectations.
This role requires a strong understanding of construction safety, the ability to recognize hazards in the field, and the confidence to identify and reference applicable OSHA standards when addressing safety concerns. The successful candidate will work closely with contractors, project leadership, and other stakeholders to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure timely resolution of safety issues.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the Owner's Safety Representative during construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance and compliance with OSHA requirements and project safety expectations.
- Conduct routine field observations, safety inspections, and audits of construction activities.
- Identify unsafe conditions, potential hazards, and unsafe work practices and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Clearly document safety observations, findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify, interpret, and cite applicable OSHA construction standards when addressing field safety concerns.
- Support the implementation and enforcement of project safety policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings, project planning discussions, and safety-related coordination meetings.
- Support incident investigations, assist with determining contributing factors, and communicate lessons learned to project teams.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure identified safety issues are properly addressed and closed.
- Use digital tools, mobile applications, and reporting platforms to document inspections, observations, incidents, and other safety activities.
- Maintain accurate safety records and project documentation.
- Work collaboratively with contractors, subcontractors, construction managers, project leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on hazard identification, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support fire protection and hazardous materials/chemical management requirements as applicable to the project.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of construction safety experience.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and cite applicable OSHA standards in real-world field situations.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices, hazard identification, and corrective action processes.
- Strong computer skills and experience using digital safety reporting tools and applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with construction crews, contractors, subcontractors, and project leadership.
- Ability to work independently in an active construction environment.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and follow-through skills.
- Working knowledge of fire protection standards.
- Working knowledge of hazardous materials and chemical management and transportation requirements.
- Experience supporting utility-scale solar construction projects.
- Experience with battery energy storage system (BESS) construction.
- Experience serving in an Owner/Client Safety Representative capacity.
- Experience overseeing multiple contractors and subcontractors.
- Experience conducting construction safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- OSHA 30 or other relevant safety certifications are a plus.
- Work is primarily performed in an active construction environment.
- Regular field presence is required.
- Ability to walk significant distances across large construction sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to construction activities, heavy equipment, electrical work, and other active jobsite hazards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with construction personnel in a field environment.
