The Measurement & Electrical Technician is responsible for testing, inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating measurement, electrical, control, and related equipment used in gas operations. This position helps ensure equipment and facilities operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
The role is primarily field-based and requires the ability to work independently, recognize abnormal operating conditions, accurately document work performed, and collaborate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and other personnel.
General Accountabilities- Recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal conditions associated with assigned duties.
- Complete required reports, records, and documentation accurately and completely.
- Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner and actively participate in company safety programs.
- Work effectively as a member of a team and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with coworkers.
- Perform work in accordance with company policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, codes, and requirements established by external regulatory agencies.
- Work independently with limited supervision and exercise sound judgment within the scope of the position.
- Provide basic direction or guidance to contractors and less-experienced employees when required.
- Test, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate meters, pressure regulators, control valves, relief valves, pneumatic control devices, RTUs, EGM systems, and gas analyzers.
- Perform routine maintenance on gas odorizers, including setting injection rates and monitoring and reporting usage and concentration.
- Operate and maintain power supply systems.
- Identify and verify pipe, valves, fittings, and related components using appropriate measurement devices.
- Inspect electrical installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company requirements.
- Install and maintain small-diameter instrument piping and tubing.
- Use test and inspection equipment to verify, test, and calibrate instrumentation.
- Operate and maintain in-line heaters.
- Perform routine testing, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Accurately document work activities, test results, inspections, and equipment conditions.
- Develop and document gas handling procedures as required.
- Occasionally direct or assist other employees with routine measurement-related activities.
- Assist with work planning and provide information to support budget development and tracking.
- Perform other duties as assigned and as qualified, which may include responsibilities related to electrical controls, equipment operation, measurement, telecommunications, mechanical maintenance, and operations technician functions based on business and operational needs.
- Understand and comply with all applicable safety procedures, company policies, and code requirements.
- Help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment and facilities.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training, programs, and initiatives.
- Exercise appropriate judgment when identifying equipment issues, abnormal conditions, and potential safety concerns.
- Work with a high degree of independence while knowing when to seek assistance or escalate issues.
- No formal supervisory responsibilities are assigned to this position.
- May provide basic guidance and direction to contractors or less-experienced employees performing routine activities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of directly relevant training and experience.
- Strong understanding of safety policies, procedures, and practices, with the ability to consistently work in accordance with established requirements.
- Strong technical, mechanical, electrical, and analytical skills gained through formal education, training, and/or experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to collect, document, and relay basic information.
- Ability and willingness to learn and assist with more complex equipment, tasks, and procedures.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Proficiency with standard office software and computer applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment that values inclusiveness, integrity, honesty, and open communication.
- Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
