IT - Business Analyst
Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Contract: 12 months
Schedule: 40 Hours
Pay: $55-$60/hour, DOE
Position Summary:
The Business Systems Analyst serves as a critical liaison between business stakeholders, operational teams, software vendors, and Information Technology. This role is responsible for analyzing business processes, defining and managing requirements, supporting system implementations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across enterprise applications. Working within an Agile framework, the Business Systems Analyst ensures business systems effectively support operational objectives, maximize business value, and maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
The position requires strong analytical, technical, and communication skills, with a focus on utility operations systems such as GIS, ADMS, engineering analysis tools, and asset management platforms
IT - Business Analyst | Responsibilities:
- Business Analysis & Requirements Management
- Partner with stakeholders to identify business needs, document requirements, and translate business objectives into actionable user stories and functional specifications.
- Facilitate requirements gathering sessions, process analysis workshops, and solution reviews.
- Manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment between business expectations and delivered solutions.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements and system enhancements.
- Agile Delivery & Solution Development
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Service Owners, developers, vendors, and Scrum teams to refine priorities, scope, and deliverables.
- Support Agile planning activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and acceptance criteria development.
- Track and communicate the status of user stories, project milestones, risks, and dependencies.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of complex technology initiatives and system enhancements.
- System Support & Operations
- Monitor business system performance and reliability, ensuring applications operate as intended.
- Evaluate incidents, system issues, and enhancement requests to identify root causes and recommend solutions.
- Coordinate with IT teams, vendors, and business units to resolve technical and operational challenges.
- Participate in on-call support activities as required.
- Testing & Quality Assurance
- Develop test strategies, test plans, and acceptance criteria for new functionality and system changes.
- Lead and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.
- Validate solutions meet business requirements, quality standards, and operational expectations.
- Support defect management and issue resolution throughout implementation efforts.
- Training & Change Management
- Develop and deliver training materials, user documentation, and operational procedures.
- Facilitate end-user adoption through effective communication, training, and support.
- Assist stakeholders in understanding system capabilities, enhancements, and business process changes.
- Governance & Compliance
- Develop and maintain business cases, process documentation, and operational procedures.
- Support compliance with regulatory, security, audit, and data governance requirements.
- Establish and maintain standards that ensure business systems are operated at acceptable levels of quality and service.

- Qualifications
- Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in business analysis, requirements management, product management, program management, software development, software testing, or related disciplines.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications and business-critical operational systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams on complex technology initiatives.
- Preferred Utility Industry Experience
- Experience supporting one or more of the following utility systems and technologies:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)
- Engineering Analysis and Planning Tools
- Asset Lens
- Asset Management Systems
- Utility Operations and Work Management Processes
- Experience supporting one or more of the following utility systems and technologies:

- Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and facilitation skills with the ability to drive consensus and decision-making.
- Experience with reporting tools, database queries, workflow modeling, and test automation tools.
- Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across business and IT teams.
