We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Coordinator to support Electric Transmission construction projects throughout Central and Northwest Virginia. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while providing environmental oversight for transmission construction activities. The ideal candidate will have experience performing environmental inspections, interpreting permit requirements, and working independently in a field-based environment.

This position plays a key role in protecting environmental resources by conducting site inspections, providing compliance guidance, supporting project teams, and ensuring construction activities meet all applicable environmental requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections on active electric transmission construction projects.
  • Monitor compliance with erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, environmental permits, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform oversight inspections to ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, permits, and environmental commitments.
  • Evaluate project sites for environmental compliance issues and provide practical recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Interpret environmental regulations, permits, and planning documents, translating regulatory requirements into operational guidance for field personnel.
  • Prepare inspection reports, compliance documentation, and regulatory submittals for internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and customers.
  • Support Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) initiatives while promoting safe work practices on construction sites.
  • Provide environmental compliance training and guidance on:
    • Erosion and sediment control
    • Stormwater management
    • Spill prevention
    • Chemical and waste management
    • Environmental permit compliance
  • Collaborate with project managers, construction personnel, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project execution.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, or a related environmental discipline.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on environmental field experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Current Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) certifications, including:
    • Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector (ESC)
    • Stormwater Management Inspector (SWM)
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to multiple project sites using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided).

Required Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of erosion and sediment control principles and stormwater management practices, including implementation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
  • Ability to interpret environmental regulations, permits, engineering plans, and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of environmental permitting requirements and environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and documenting compliance findings.
  • Ability to identify compliance risks and recommend practical corrective actions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting utility, electric transmission, linear construction, pipeline, roadway, or other large-scale infrastructure projects is highly preferred.

Knowledge of the following environmental regulations and programs is a plus:

  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC)
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)
  • Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA)

Preferred certifications include:

  • Certified Erosion, Sediment and Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI)
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Handler
