Pay: $30/hr - $35.22/hr
Engineering Technologist II Qualifications
- DCFC EVSE repair and maintenance experience preferred
- Hold OEM certifications from/on BTC Power, and ABB Terra products
- Experience with computers (Microsoft suite, Team Viewer)
- PLC and related experience, CAN bus systems/protocols/diagnostics
- DC and AC systems including inverters and rectifiers, UPS systems
- Cellular modems
- Power Supply (24v systems)
- Certified to work on 600-volt electrical equipment
- Experience supporting DC fast charging systems (30 kW - 360 kW)
- Knowledge of EV charging and electrical standards including:
- NEC Article 625
- UL 2202 / UL 2231
- UL 1741
- Experience with CANbus, PLCs, or firmware diagnostic tools
- OSHA 30 or NFPA 70E certification
Engineering Technologist II / EV Field Technician - Intake Call Summary
Location: Florida (Ideally Central Florida)
Team: Transportation Electrification
Lloyd Graves' team manages transportation electrification initiatives, including:
- Park & Plug Program - Deployment and maintenance of public DC fast charging infrastructure
- Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) School Bus Pilot - Testing bidirectional EV charging technology
This role is primarily an EV Charger Field Technician position supporting public DC fast charger operations across Florida, with oversight responsibilities for charger networks in Florida, North Carolina, and Indiana.
Key Responsibilities Field Support & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and repair DC fast chargers
- Perform maintenance on EV charging equipment
- Support charger uptime and operational reliability
- Conduct field visits across Florida charger locations
- Monitor charger performance through the EV Connect network
- Identify offline chargers and operational issues
- Open and manage OEM/vendor support tickets
- Coordinate with charger manufacturers for diagnostics, repairs, and parts
Primary charger vendors:
- ABB
- BTC Power
Candidates should ideally have familiarity or certifications with these systems.
Required Skills & Experience Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience maintaining DC fast chargers
- Experience with EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment)
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair background
- Ability to work on equipment up to 600 volts
- Own tools preferred
- Licensed electrician preferred
Candidates with transferable experience may also be considered, including:
- Solar inverter experience
- Controls technician background
- Electrical technician experience
However, EV charging infrastructure experience remains strongly preferred.
Education & Certifications
- Degree preferred but not required
- Relevant hands-on experience can substitute for formal education
- EV charger certifications or OEM training are highly valued
Travel Expectations
- Travel is primarily throughout Florida
- Most travel will be day trips
- Limited overnight travel expected
- Occasional overnight travel may occur for Panhandle locations
- Company vehicle provided:
- Chevrolet Silverado EV truck
Candidate should ideally live in Central Florida to minimize drive times statewide.
Interview Process
- Initial interview will be conducted via Microsoft Teams
- Possible second conversation with the current technician being replaced
- In-person interviews are not currently anticipated
Assignment Details
- Long-term assignment expected
- Existing charger operations are projected to continue through approximately 2029-2030
- Role expected to provide ongoing operational support for public charging infrastructure
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates will have:
- Hands-on DC fast charger maintenance experience
- Familiarity with ABB and BTC Power equipment
- Electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to independently manage field service work
- Experience monitoring charger networks and coordinating with OEM support teams
- Flexibility for statewide Florida travel
Engineering Technologist II Description
- Monthly
- Calculate Monthly Uptime values
- Ensure customer session and uptime reports are created and sent
- Perform and support audits of session counts, usage, and billing across all jurisdictions
- Daily
- Monitor network operations and submit OEM or CPO tickets as required (approximately 25+ tickets per day) (CPO means charge point operator, in our case EVConnect)
- Follow up on open OEM or CPO tickets
- Process vendor invoices
- Order / Ship parts to field vendors as required
- Charger Solutions- respond to on-demand issues and authorizations to replace chargers. Process invoices associated with
- Respond to emergent charger issues.

- Respond to Commission Complaints, Driver inquiries, media inquiries, LAM questions or inquiries (ex. Orange County Convention Center)
- Storm Response = pre-storm planning; post-storm network restoration and evaluation
- Provide technical and electrical expertise - used to evaluate contractor findings and repairs, troubleshoot issues
- Issue, track and approve vendor invoices
- Support budget development and tracking during the year
