Location Hybrid – Madison, WI (2 days onsite per week) Contract Details

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer (Contract) to support a large-scale modernization initiative focused on transforming a core financial platform. This role will play a critical part in designing and building a high-performance, secure API layer that enables integrations across internal applications and third-party platforms.

This is a long-term initiative with significant visibility and impact. Given the complexity and criticality of the work, we are looking for senior-level contractors who can onboard quickly, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and commit to a multi-year engagement.

• 5+ years of backend development experience using C#/.NET in Visual Studio
• 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Prior experience in the financial services or banking domain
• Strong background in automated unit, integration, and API testing
• Working knowledge of DevOps best practices, including version control and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience building and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams
• Availability to work Central Standard Time business hours
• Willingness to commit to a long-term (2+ year) contract engagement

• Experience with agentic AI tools or platforms (e.g., large language model integrations)
• Exposure to large-scale platform modernization or core system transformation initiatives
• Performance tuning and scalability experience in high-transaction environments

• Design, develop, and maintain C#/.NET backend APIs supporting enterprise applications
• Build secure, scalable, and high-performing API integrations
• Integrate APIs with SQL Server and other enterprise systems
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and performance optimization
• Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to refine requirements
• Troubleshoot, debug, and support ongoing application enhancements
