Power Plant Outage Manager
Location: Lansing, MI
Contract: 12 months
Schedule: 40 Hours
Pay: $83-$85/hour, DOE
The Planet Group is looking for a Power Plant Outage Manager to join our well-known Fortune 500 client on an 12-month contract, working a hybrid schedule from Lansing, MI.
Power Plant Outage Manager | Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline, or equivalent experience in power generation, industrial maintenance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in power plant/manufacturing/industrial operations, maintenance, or outage/project management, with direct responsibility for major maintenance events.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing contractors in a heavy industrial or power generation environment.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and cost-control skills, including familiarity with SAP or another ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning software (e.g., Maximo) software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient in Primavera P6 scheduling software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of power plant equipment and maintenance practices (e.g., boilers, turbines, generators, balance-of-plant systems).
- Strong safety leadership and risk management mindset, with a track record of driving safe work practices during complex, time-constrained outages.
- High proficiency in organizing, prioritizing, and decision-making under pressure, especially when managing emergent work and scope changes.
- Use of continuous improvement processes, KPIs and lessons learned to shorten outage durations (availability improvements), reduce costs, and improve reliability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interface effectively with plant staff, corporate leadership, OEMs, and regulators.
- Collaborate in full-cycle planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout of plant outages, including development of outage scope, critical path schedules, and resource plans.
- Coordinate and direct Consumers Energy internal resources, contractors, OEM field service to ensure safe and efficient execution of outage work activities.
- Develop and manage outage budgets, track costs and productivity in real time, and recommend scope or plan adjustments to maintain financial and schedule objectives.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, equipment tagging policies, and regulatory requirements
- Review and understand risk assessments and support the implementation mitigation plans for high-risk work.
- Lead or support pre-outage readiness meetings, daily execution meetings, and post-outage lessons-learned sessions.
- Document outcomes and drive implementation of improvement actions in future outages.
- Maintain and report outage performance indicators (safety, duration, cost, scope execution, reliability impacts) to plant and corporate leadership.
- Prepare and issue final outage reports summarizing scope, performance, lessons learned, and recommendations for future events.
