The Planet Group is seeking a Principal Project Controls Specialist (PPCS) to support Project Management and Construction (PMC) efforts for Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle Power Plant projects. This role partners closely with Project Managers and Project Directors across projects of varying size and complexity, with a strong focus on schedule leadership, field integration, and project controls excellence.
This position will lead the development, maintenance, and analysis of integrated project schedules while supporting site teams through field observations, vendor coordination, quantity tracking, and change impact analysis. Site mobilization is expected.
Key Responsibilities-
Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of integrated project schedules, including baseline definition and updates

Support field teams through progress tracking, field walkdowns, and vendor coordination

Incorporate contract and implementation details into schedules and ensure alignment with overall site activities

Perform schedule analysis, variance reporting, and recovery planning

Lead and support change control processes, including evaluating schedule impacts and managing change documentation

Develop and deliver project controls reporting and analytics, including forecasts, trends, and performance updates

Partner with project teams to support emergent and strategic initiatives

Implement and maintain project controls methodologies, including WBS, cost tracking, scheduling, and forecasting systems

Collaborate on project estimating, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, cost, and risk
-
Support benchmarking and continuous improvement initiatives across project controls functions

Serve as a technical SME and mentor, coaching project controls and project management team members

Lead or support portfolio, program, and project review communications

Strong expertise in project controls (schedule, cost, risk, contracts, WBS)

Proven ability to analyze complex data and communicate clear, actionable insights and forecasts

Experience supporting multiple projects or programs simultaneously

Advanced proficiency in project scheduling tools and analytics platforms
-
Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
-
Ability to work in a field-based environment and interface with cross-functional teams

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

6+ years of relevant experience
-
OR High School diploma/GED with 10+ years of related experience
-
Advanced experience with Primavera P6 and schedule analysis tools (e.g., Acumen Fuse)
-
Experience developing and maintaining integrated site schedules

Strong background in schedule variance analysis, recovery planning, and change impact evaluation

Experience working with EPC contractors and vendor schedules
-
Familiarity with tools such as MS Project, Power BI/Business Objects, PeopleSoft, and other project systems

Experience with risk analysis tools (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations)
-
Field experience performing progress tracking and schedule validation
-
Field-based role with required site mobilization
-
Valid driver’s license
