Power Plant Operator – Gas-Fueled Generation
Location: Mauk, GA
Pay Rate: $30–$37/hr (may exceed for the right candidate)
Contract: 12 months (potential to convert, depending on long-term plant strategy)
Position Overview
We are seeking a mechanically and electrically skilled Power Plant Operator to support the operation and maintenance of a gas-fueled power generation facility. This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
The Operator will work as part of a small, on-site team supporting daily plant operations while coordinating with external partners such as the host facility, regulators, and service providers. Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and the willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain a gas-fueled power plant utilizing spark-ignition reciprocating engines and auxiliary systems
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on engines, generators, and balance-of-plant equipment
- Maintain gas processing and handling systems including compressors, scrubbers, aftercoolers, filtration vessels, dehydration skids, pumps, chillers, and valves
- Monitor plant performance through instrumentation and process control systems, adjusting operating parameters as required
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out corrective actions safely and efficiently
- Document maintenance activities, operational data, and equipment condition accurately and consistently
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at the site, state, and federal levels
- Participate in on-call rotation and remain within a defined response distance during assigned hours
- Coordinate with contractors, service vendors, and other on-site personnel
- Perform general housekeeping and other operational support tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules
- Background in mechanical, electrical, power generation, gas systems, or industrial maintenance
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; “jack-of-all-trades” mindset preferred
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to collect, interpret, and document operational data clearly
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team
- Comfortable working in industrial environments and responding to high-priority situations
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with gas and/or diesel reciprocating engines
- Experience with Caterpillar engines
- Experience with Jenbacher generators (highly preferred)
- Experience with landfill gas (LFG) or renewable natural gas (RNG) power generation systems
- Familiarity with LFG extraction and utilization systems
- Knowledge of landfill gas equipment such as compressors, scrubbers, pumps, chillers, and associated piping and valves
- Exposure to electrical controls, PLCs, generators, and control systems
- Experience using instrumentation, metering, and monitoring equipment in an operating plant
