Job Title: Contracts Manager III
Location: San Francisco
Contract Length: 6 month contract 
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Pay Range: $40-55/hour

Must Haves: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Business, Legal Studies, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer focus and ability to build and sustain effective partnerships across functions.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and attention to detail.

Preferred: 
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced legal training.
  • Experience working in life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance-driven contracting and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

Job Description:
The Contract Manager is responsible for assessing, analyzing, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and executing contracts that support Development Sciences and Translational Medicine. This role ensures business partners can efficiently procure services and collaborate with external organizations while remaining fully compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, and Genentech policies. The Contract Manager serves as a strategic advisor to stakeholders, balancing business objectives with legal and operational risk management.
  • Conduct thorough, compliant assessments, analyses, drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of contractual documents.
  • Negotiate optimal contract terms for Genentech while balancing risk exposure, business objectives, and organizational risk tolerance.
  • Exercise sound judgment and authority to make legal and business decisions during negotiations with minimal reliance on Legal.
  • Advise and influence stakeholders and functional leadership on contractual matters, business terms, and process efficiencies.
  • Partner with internal teams to anticipate future needs and implement process improvements (e.g., templates, playbooks, delegation of authority).
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to ensure efficient contract execution and relationship management.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource; may train or mentor other contract managers on processes, negotiation strategies, templates, and tools.
  • Contribute to departmental objectives and long-range goals; may lead process improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Deliver presentations to stakeholders and leadership to build understanding of contract processes and highlight risks or key considerations.
  • Maintain accurate records of executed contracts and support audit requests as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
