Job Description

Production & Tools Manager
Location: California, San Francisco
Duration: 6 months
Pay:  $75/hr - $80/hr (DOE)

The Planet Group is seeking a highly detail-oriented and technically strong Production & Tools Manager to lead end-to-end campaign production for our Global Public Policy communications. This role sits at the intersection of operations, marketing technology, and execution, ensuring every campaign is delivered accurately, compliantly, and at scale.
You will own the full production lifecycle--from intake to launch--while managing a high-performing production team and acting as the subject matter expert for marketing automation tools and systems. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, brings operational rigor, and is passionate about improving systems, workflows, and outcomes at scale.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in marketing operations, campaign production, or production management
  • Expertise in enterprise marketing automation platforms (email, push, SMS, journey orchestration)
  • Strong experience with campaign QA processes (content, rendering, audience logic, automation validation)
  • Proven track record managing high-volume, short-turnaround production environments
  • Deep understanding of personalization and dynamic content logic
  • Experience with global, multi-language campaign execution
  • Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks (GDPR, CAN-SPAM)
  • Ability to plan capacity, manage timelines, and allocate resources across concurrent projects
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating them into production-ready briefs
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong structured problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience with audience segmentation, boolean logic, and suppression rules
  • Familiarity with journey builder tools and lifecycle automation systems
  • Experience improving workflows, intake systems, or production processes
  • Exposure to A/B testing frameworks and statistical analysis
  • Experience managing vendors, agencies, or external partners

Responsibilities

Production Ownership & Execution
  • Own the production queue end-to-end: intake, prioritization, assignment, build, QA, and launch across channels (email, push, SMS, in-app, landing pages, forms, surveys, etc.)
  • Ensure all communications meet quality, compliance, and targeting standards
  • Establish and enforce structured QA processes covering:
    • Content accuracy and rendering
    • Audience logic and targeting
    • Personalization and dynamic content
    • Suppression rules and deliverability
  • Translate campaign requirements into clear, actionable production briefs
  • Manage timelines, remove blockers, and coordinate cross-functional dependencies
  • Apply privacy and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CAN-SPAM) to all campaigns
  • Identify risks early and proactively drive mitigation strategies
  • Recommend production efficiencies through automation and improved tooling
Capacity Planning & Workflow Management
  • Forecast production capacity based on volume, complexity, and team capability
  • Balance execution needs with long-term improvements and automation initiatives
  • Estimate effort for incoming work and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Define and optimize workflows from intake through post-launch analysis
  • Drive efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and minimize rework
Tool Ownership & Enablement
  • Serve as the primary owner of marketing automation and production systems
  • Maintain templates for audience segmentation, journeys, reporting, and creative assets
  • Identify system gaps and advocate for enhancements or scalable workarounds
  • Design and improve cross-team processes and handoffs (Strategy, Creative, Legal, Analytics, etc.)
  • Train and enable teams on tools, workflows, and best practices
  • Communicate system updates, constraints, and opportunities clearly to stakeholders
Quality & Accountability
  • Build and sustain a culture of ownership, accountability, and high-quality execution
  • Diagnose production issues using structured problem-solving approaches
  • Implement scalable fixes rather than temporary solutions
  • Maintain robust QA checklists, error-handling processes, and fail-safes
  • Track performance and continuously improve production standards
