Journeyman Apprentice Electrician & Facilities Maintenance Assistant Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Journeyman Apprentice Electrician & Facilities Maintenance Assistant for their facility in Middle River, MD. This position reports directly to the Facility Manager or Lead Technician and supports the maintenance team in delivering high-quality workmanship while maintaining a safe and professional work environment.

The selected candidate will assist with maintaining facility infrastructure and complex power distribution systems associated with facility substations and operational systems. Responsibilities include performing electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and general facility maintenance tasks.

This role involves working with specialized electrical equipment including wires and cables, transformers, insulators, switches, fuses, grounding systems, and control equipment. The technician will also assist with testing and maintaining high-voltage systems and equipment such as circuit breakers, relays, transformers, grounding systems, and lighting systems.

Candidates must be willing to learn and become certified to work with high-voltage industrial electrical systems up to 600 volts. The selected candidate will receive immediate hands-on training and formal classroom instruction leading to High Tension (HT) certification after one year of service.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. Citizens, possess a valid driver's license, and have a minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in electrical or facility maintenance. Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with the Facility Manager and Site Lead Electrician to determine service needs and coordinate/supervise subcontractors performing on-site services.
  • Perform electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and monthly preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
  • Respond to electrical service calls including lighting repairs, bulb replacements, circuit failures, and new electrical installations.
  • Complete corrective maintenance work orders and assist skilled trades personnel with projects and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Attend toolbox safety meetings, complete required safety training, and utilize mandatory safety equipment while performing assigned tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting electrical systems, emergency generators, fire pumps, lighting systems, plumbing systems, and other general facility maintenance issues.
  • Support snow removal and ice management activities across the 163-acre campus during winter months.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical facility maintenance or related maintenance environments.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid U.S. driver's license required.
  • Electrical license and/or High Voltage certification preferred.
  • NFPA 70E Certification preferred.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, electrical drawings, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Technical Qualifications
  • Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance and electrical tasks.
  • Basic computer proficiency including email, internet usage, and report documentation.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence accurately and professionally.

Core Competencies Customer Service & Communication
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
Electrical Knowledge & Troubleshooting
  • Experience utilizing electrical testing equipment on systems up to 600V.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of relay testing equipment, circuit breakers, and infrared scanning technologies.
  • Understanding of high-voltage switchgear operations and maintenance.
Mechanical & Facility Systems Knowledge
  • Familiarity with emergency generators, UPS systems, electric fire pumps, and diesel fire pump systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and interpret repair manuals, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications.
Organization & Time Management
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain facility maintenance records and reports.
  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors, prioritize daily tasks, and complete assignments efficiently and safely.
