Remote: East Coast Hours
Pay: $80- 85 per hour
Duration: 12 month contract with possible extension
Job Description:
The Planet Group is seeking a Lead Product Owner to drive the Billing Payments capability and lead the transition to a unified One Billing Ecosystem (TOBE). This role will play a critical part in modernizing and rationalizing legacy billing systems across multiple lines of business.
You’ll own strategy, backlog prioritization, and delivery—partnering closely with engineering, design, data, operations, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, customer-centric payment solutions.
- Lead the product strategy and roadmap for billing and payments modernization
- Own and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring alignment to business value and customer needs
- Drive integration and simplification of legacy billing systems across the enterprise
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into clear user stories and measurable outcomes
- Partner cross-functionally with engineering, design, data, and operations teams
- Lead Agile ceremonies and ensure delivery of high-impact features
- Define and track KPIs to measure product success and customer value
- Communicate product vision and progress to stakeholders and leadership
- Support payment capabilities including processing, reconciliation, APIs, and security standards
- Define and communicate product vision aligned with strategic priorities
- Collaborate with stakeholders and leadership across business and technology
- Own backlog management and ensure clear, actionable user stories
- Participate in quarterly planning and set delivery expectations
- Remove roadblocks and drive alignment across teams
- Monitor product health, balancing short- and long-term outcomes
- Support roadmap development and influence portfolio-level planning
- Lead customer-driven design and usability efforts
- Experience owning billing or payments products (highly preferred)
- Strong background translating business + regulatory requirements into product delivery
- Hands-on experience working in Agile environments
- Knowledge of payment systems (processing, reconciliation, APIs, security/privacy) is a plus
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive decision-making
- Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
- Experimental mindset with a focus on innovation and outcomes
- Bachelor’s degree (Business, Computer Science, or related field)
- 3–5+ years working directly with Agile teams
- 7+ years in business, technology, or consulting
- Insurance industry experience is a plus
