Watchmaker Technician

Location: Onsite 
Duration: Permanent Hire
Salary: $63,300 - $73,000 depending on experience 

The Planet Group is seeking a Watchmaker Technician to join our well-known luxury retail client on a permanent basis. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position and will work an onsite schedule.

Watchmaker Technician Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that department’s productivity and quality rate goals are consistently met and maintained.
  • Ensures that spare parts usage rate is consistent with department goals.
  • Ensures that SOP's and safety protocols are followed.
  • Ensures proper conditions of tools and equipment.
  • Ensures that all paperwork is correct for jobs and trays, movements and case numbers.
  • Ensures that jobs and trays are properly processed through central coordination station OR through WSA at personal workstation.
  • Ensures that standard work processes are followed.
  • Ensures a developing level of comprehension in all tasks performed.
  • Maintaining awareness of and adherence to quality standards
  • Acquiring, administrating and documenting spare parts usage according to SOP’s
  • Determining wear and functionality of watch parts
  • Decasing watches
  • Adjusting endshakes and sideshakes
  • Cleaning movements and components
  • Servicing additional mechanisms (complications)
  • Replacing batteries
  • Checking layout, function, and interaction of mechanical parts
  • Appropriate selecting and maintenance of tools, equipment, and devices as defined in SOP’s
  • Adjusting movements to ensure Company timing standards are met
  • Disassembling, assembling, and lubricating components as needed
  • Performing escapement adjustments
  • Adjusting hairsprings to be flat and centered
  • Verifying and analyzing amplitude issues
  • Troubleshooting and correcting movements and damaged/worn parts
  • Adjusting calendar functions
  • Performing non-invasive inspections of completed watch movements - including automatic device modules and train wheels
  • Recording notes in system appropriately
Watchmaker Technician Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • Certification/Diploma from accredited Watchmaking Program or comparable years of experience
  • Organizational skills
  • Watchmaking repair related to escapement and hairspring diagnosis, precision timing, etc
  • Excellent Hand-eye coordination
  • Alpha-numeric recognition and reading skills
  • Strong Attention to detail
Watchmaker Technician Physical Requirements:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; to write and perform data entry on a desktop computer. Employee may work for extended periods at a watchmaking bench. The employee is occasionally required to sit/walk/bend; lift and/or carry no more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, frequent reading and the use of a loupe. The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
