Job Title: Electrical Test & Commissioning Specialist
Location: Sterling, VA 20164
Contract length: 12-month Contract
Pay: $45/hr - $65/hr
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls, or equivalent and min 6 years of applicable electrical testing experience Required or
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls, or equivalent and min 8 years of applicable electrical testing experience Required or
- High School Diploma/GED and min 9 years of applicable electrical testing experience Required
- 5+ years of experience in the electrical testing industry with a focus on working with protection and control equipment, RTUs, and telecom with HV utility, co-op, power generation, federal, or municipal clients
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Technology in a similar discipline, or technical school diploma, or military experience in either Army Prime Power or Navy Nuclear electrical program
- Experience with transmission and distribution relays includes SEL, GE, ABB, and Westinghouse
- Experience with substation RTUs, communication processors, and telecom equipment for both brownfield and greenfield projects
- Experienced with scoping, scheduling, and budgeting processes for protection and control, RTU, and telecom projects for both internal and external entities
- Experience with project management of protection and control teams working in HV substations for utility clients
- Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Pass pre-employment drug test, and periodic unannounced drug tests
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check with 7-year history
- Have a valid driver's license and meet minimum motor vehicle insurability standards
- Take and pass 30-hour OSHA training
- Ability to work in a field environment subject to changing outdoor conditions
- Work overtime as needed and be willing to travel extensively to client work locations
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- 100% travel or field assignment, unless relocation is an option
- Ability to travel
- Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
- Valid driver's license
- Installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders (DFRs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and communication processors
- Functional testing for protection and control circuitry associated with transmission lines, HV bus, transformer, circuit breaker, feeder, reactors, and capacitor banks
- RTU and telecom upgrades for various clients
- Experienced with SEL microprocessor relays such as 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787
- Desired experience with GE microprocessor relays such as C30, D60, F35, L90, T35 and T60
- Required experience with various RTUs and communication processors such as GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech
- Accurately reviewing, documenting, and submitting test reports used for client reporting and regulatory purposes
- Interpret one-line, three-line, wiring, schematic diagrams, and communication configurations with the ability to recognize and bring attention to discrepancies
- Accurately completes time and expense reports, along with maintaining the good condition of the assigned company vehicle
