Subawards Specialist 
3-4+ month Contract
Remote
$36-43hr

Must Haves:
Bachelor's Degree + 3 years of relevant experience
Experience in a Subawards focused position
Strong analytical and organizational abilities also required.
Familiarity with computerized reports, financial statements and financial accounting systems important.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, exercise sound judgment and discretion, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment essential
Experience negotiating subaward terms  

Preferred: 
In depth knowledge of subaward and/or subcontract procedure preferred.
In depth knowledge of cost accounting principles.
Familiarity with grants management databases
Research administration experience at a university or academic medical center

Overview:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Contract Negotiations and guidance of the Senior Subaward Officer, the Subaward Specialist operates as a member of the Sponsored Project Administration (SPA) Subawards unit, which is responsible for more than 1,500 subaward actions issued yearly for externally funded grants and contracts from government and non-government sponsors.  The Subaward Specialist exercises professional judgment in the issuance, negotiation and execution process of a subaward and/or subcontract

Primary responsibilities:
Advise Principal Investigators and Departmental Administrators about University policies and procedures for analyzing, issuing and managing subawards; this includes guidance on the preparation and submission of requests to SPA.
Review prime award terms and conditions for Federal, Non-Federal, Federal Clinical Trial and Industry sponsors.
Prepare subaward agreements and subcontracts by implementing the correct subaward documents, redacted Notice of Award and applicable terms and conditions in the templates for issuance to subrecipient institutions, organizations, and industry partners.
Collaborate with other University offices such as Purchasing, Risk Management, General Counsel, Institutional Review Boards and Technology Ventures regarding changes to terms and conditions as necessary.
Serve as a liaison between University and sub-recipient sites to resolve language disputes.
Monitor the process for each subaward and subcontract in order to assure quality control and abide by internal/external audit requirements.
Represent the University and its policies appropriately to subrecipient institutions/organizations.
Negotiate subaward terms under the guidance of the Senior Subaward Officer, the Manager of Contract Negotiations and/or Pre- or Post-award SPA staff.
Implement effective quality control standards for full execution of subaward documents by working with the SPA Financial Analyst to ensure that funding allocations in the University's financial accounting system match the subaward agreement/subcontract.
Ensure all required subaward documents and related information are uploaded into the grants management system (InfoEd).
Coordinate and obtain all appropriate closeout documents at the end of the project period.
Update the Subaward Master Tracker on a weekly basis and provide the necessary follow-ups in Data Integrity Meetings with higher management.
Create records and update entries in the Federal Subaward Reporting System (FSRS).
Participate in the development and implementation of office policies and procedures with a focus on maintaining and updating subaward standard operating procedures.
Participate in Export Control trainings from ORCT and Visual Compliance database trainings to accurately conduct restricted party screenings for the appropriate entities.
