Project Manager - Power Generation

The Project Manager leads and supports the execution of capital projects at major power generation facilities. This role manages projects from development through commissioning and transition to operations, with responsibility for safety, environmental compliance, budget, schedule, contracts, and overall project performance. Experience with major power plant equipment and systems, including turbines, generators, pumps, motors, control systems, electrical/instrumentation, and balance-of-plant systems is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Safety and Environmental Compliance are the primary focus throughout all project activities.
  • Lead or support major project phases, including project development, site development, permitting, scope development, contract negotiations, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and transition to operations.
  • Manage all phases of smaller improvement projects, including permitting, engineering, contracting, construction, and commissioning.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and financial spend plans.
  • Monitor project costs and make decisions to achieve financial and schedule objectives.
  • Manage contracts and commercial relationships with suppliers, contractors, engineering firms, and other project partners.
  • Utilize established project management tollgate processes to manage project development and execution.
  • Coordinate engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, and other functional teams to achieve project goals.
  • Lead project teams and contractors while maintaining accountability for milestones, deliverables, safety, quality, and performance.
  • Manage project documentation, reporting, and other administrative requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical, construction, scheduling, and project execution issues.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Represent the project and company in meetings, stakeholder discussions, and public forums as required.
  • Review construction specifications, technical documentation, drawings, and material requirements to ensure work complies with project standards.
  • Support project commissioning, startup, turnover, and closeout activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma required; bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in construction, engineering, power generation, or project management, including at least 3 years of demonstrated project management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, relevant technologies, and leadership practices.
  • Working knowledge of power generation and pollution control equipment.
  • Experience with turbines, generators, pumps, motors, control systems, electrical/instrumentation, and balance-of-plant systems preferred.
  • General knowledge of construction practices, field operations, equipment utilization, and work scheduling.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements, scaffolding, and industry safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate technical problem resolution and implement project changes.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels of management, staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to compare construction specifications and material requirements against completed work.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be highly motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to perform field work requirements, including confined-space entry, climbing stairs and ladders, and wearing a respirator.
