This opportunity provides the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects in the solar and wind sectors, while contributing to the development of critical civil infrastructure that addresses both current and future challenges. Civil Engineering Technicians support the planning, design, and implementation of site development activities, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities for large-scale utility projects.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Associate Civil Engineering Technician plays a vital role in the delivery of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects, working alongside a collaborative and experienced team of professionals. Under close supervision, this role performs technical civil engineering design tasks, with an emphasis on the preparation and modification of site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts. Work is performed using advanced, industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D, PVcase, and PVFarm.
Job Summary
- Supports engineering teams under general supervision.
- Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling).
- Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians.
Skills
Required:
- Experience with Civil 3D grading.
- Autodesk Civil 3D experience.
Preferred but not required:
- Solar industry experience.
- PVcase and PV Farm software experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and project policies and procedures.
- Apply quality assurance practices to ensure accurate and compliant deliverables.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives.
- Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures.
- Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs.
- Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
- Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences.
- Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers.
- Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes.
Education
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate required.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design-Related Technology preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- Typically, a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
