Position: Director of Security Operations
Location: Greater Boston Area
100% onsite
Salary: $ 165 to 200K

The Planet Group has partnered with a Boston area company to locate a Director of Security Operations for a full-time role.

We're seeking an experienced Director of Security Operations to lead and evolve our enterprise security operations program. This is a player/coach role and will require 50% hands-on and 50% management. The successful candidate will  lead a team of security engineers and SOC analysts while remaining actively involved in incident response, detection engineering, and the day-to-day operation of asecurity program.

This is a position that does need to interact with Executives, business users and team members so it is a 100% onsite role. Candidates must be able to be hired with not sponsorship required.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Security Engineers and SOC Analysts
  • Manage a hybrid Security Operations Center (SOC) alongside a Managed Detection & Response (MDR) partner
  • Lead incident response efforts and coordinate investigations across technical and business stakeholders
  • Build and tune security detections, improve monitoring coverage, and enhance response capabilities
  • Oversee core security technologies including EDR, SIEM, email security, DLP, vulnerability management, and related security tools
  • Drive security automation, playbooks, and operational improvements
  • Partner with Legal, HR, Compliance, and executive leadership on incident response, insider risk, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop security metrics and present operational updates and risk information to executive leadership
  • Support security initiatives across cloud, enterprise infrastructure, and manufacturing environments
Required Skills and Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in Security Operations, Incident Response, Detection Engineering, or Security Engineering
  • 2+ years leading and developing technical security teams
  • Hands-on experience with incident response, threat detection, SIEM, EDR, and security operations tooling
  • Experience managing a Managed Detection & Response (MDR) or co-managed SOC relationship
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK
  • Experience communicating technical risk to executives and business leadership
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in regulated industries such as defense, manufacturing, aerospace, or other highly regulated environments
  • Knowledge of CMMC, NIST 800-171, SOX, ITAR, or similar compliance frameworks
  • Exposure to OT/ICS security in manufacturing environments
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, ReliaQuest, Abnormal Security, Tenable, Jira Service Management, or comparable security platforms
  • CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, GCFA, or similar security certifications
