Job Title: Staff Civil Designer
Location: Kansas City MO 64114
Contract length: 5-month Contract
Pay: $49/hr - 54.38/hr
The Planet Group is seeking a Staff Civil Designer to lead the design and delivery of a variety of civil engineering projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil design for site development, land development, roadways, storm drainage, stormwater management, water and sanitary sewer systems, erosion and sediment control, traffic control, airports, and facilities
- Oversee design production, including layouts, calculations, and construction documentation for complex projects
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
- Interpret and apply design codes, standards, and specifications
- Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, and project documents
- Review grading and volume calculations (excavation, dredging, site development)
- Maintain organized project files, including drawings, revisions, and documentation
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to resolve design issues
- Support client meetings and business development efforts
- Mentor and train junior staff
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards
- Support project closeout and perform additional duties as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology or related field with 13+ years of experience; OR
- Associate degree with 14+ years of experience; OR
- 15+ years of progressive civil design experience in lieu of a degree
- Field experience preferred
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel
- Strong knowledge of civil design systems, calculations, and standards
- Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
