Job Description
The temporary technician position supports the Materials Technologies business in various Research and Development (R&D) and Technical Customer Service (TCS) projects. This role involves performing laboratory work on Grace Silica products which are used in a wide range of applications including coatings, electronics, renewable diesel, edible oil, oil and gas, catalysis, metal processing, and many more.
Major Responsibilities
- Assists engineers, scientists, and other technicians with a variety of laboratory tasks
- Performs chemical and/or physical analyses or scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards
- Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples
- Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines
- Active participation in required local safety program, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment.
- Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies
Required Skills
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment
- Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to work well in a team setting
- Candidate should have good interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a chemical laboratory setting
- English language proficiency
Required Experience
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related technical field.
- Associates degree and 3+ years related technical experience.
- Knowledge of basic chemical principles; Strong knowledge of basic wet-chemistry laboratory techniques
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient with operation of typical computer-controlled laboratory instrumentation
- Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
- Diligent at keeping written and/or electronic records
- Some prior knowledge of colloid chemistry and aqueous acid-base chemistry a plus
