Job Description

The temporary technician position supports the Materials Technologies business in various Research and Development (R&D) and Technical Customer Service (TCS) projects. This role involves performing laboratory work on Grace Silica products which are used in a wide range of applications including coatings, electronics, renewable diesel, edible oil, oil and gas, catalysis, metal processing, and many more.

Major Responsibilities
 

  • Assists engineers, scientists, and other technicians with a variety of laboratory tasks
  • Performs chemical and/or physical analyses or scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards
  • Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples
  • Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines
  • Active participation in required local safety program, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment.
  • Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies

Required Skills
 
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Candidate should have good interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in a chemical laboratory setting
  • English language proficiency

Required Experience
 
  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related technical field.
  • Associates degree and 3+ years related technical experience.
  • Knowledge of basic chemical principles; Strong knowledge of basic wet-chemistry laboratory techniques

Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Proficient with operation of typical computer-controlled laboratory instrumentation
  • Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
  • Diligent at keeping written and/or electronic records
  • Some prior knowledge of colloid chemistry and aqueous acid-base chemistry a plus
