  Sales Representative - Gas Utility Expansion Projects

The Sales Representative supports large natural gas utility expansion projects by working directly with prospective customers and serving as a liaison between customers, construction teams, and field sales coordinators. This is a field-based role that requires extensive travel, door-to-door customer interaction, and coordination with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project completion.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, comfortable working independently in the field, and possesses strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct door-to-door sales and customer outreach to support natural gas expansion projects.
  • Educate prospective customers on natural gas service and secure customer commitments.
  • Obtain easements and required property access agreements.
  • Serve as a sales liaison for complex customer situations, difficult negotiations, and special installation requirements.
  • Collaborate with construction, engineering, and field operations teams to help achieve annual project goals.
  • Manage construction-related documentation and ensure project records are complete and accurate.
  • Collect Job Cards from pipeline contractors and coordinate delivery for scanning, drafting, and record retention.
  • Support Maximo Work Order design and documentation activities.
  • Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Office and other company systems.
  • Travel extensively throughout assigned territories, including regular overnight stays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in outside sales, customer service, utility operations, right-of-way/easement acquisition, construction coordination, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work overnight as needed.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Personal vehicle with current insurance required.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Michigan, with the majority of work located in Big Rapids and areas north.
  • Candidates residing in North Central Michigan are strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to initially pay for travel expenses, including fuel, meals, and lodging. Approved business expenses are reimbursed weekly.
Work Environment
  • Field-based position requiring significant driving.
  • Frequent customer interaction through door-to-door sales.
  • Regular overnight travel.
  • Independent work with ongoing collaboration among sales, construction, engineering, and operations teams.
