We are seeking experienced Solar Project Engineers to support the execution of utility-scale solar construction projects throughout Virginia. This role will be part of the Construction Projects team and will work closely with Construction Project Managers to oversee EPC contractor activities, manage technical project issues, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with contractual, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

The organization is currently constructing approximately 1,000 MWAC of solar generation capacity annually. Project Engineers will support projects ranging from 1 MW to more than 150 MW and will be assigned to construction execution teams responsible for daily project oversight.

This position requires significant field presence, with an expected travel commitment of 75% or more to active solar construction sites throughout Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the project management team by managing technical aspects of utility-scale solar construction projects.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Project Controls, Technical Services, Environmental, Safety, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Tax, Business Development, and Site Owner Representatives.
  • Interface with EPC contractors, Owner's Engineers, permitting agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Participate in project status meetings and coordinate technical issue resolution.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with EPC contract requirements, technical specifications, and permit conditions.
  • Participate in site inspections and environmental compliance reviews.
  • Manage project RFI and NCR logs and facilitate issue resolution.
  • Support commissioning activities, punch list development, turnover walkdowns, and project closeout.
  • Review contractor deliverables, including specifications, performance testing reports, and as-built drawings.
  • Review third-party inspection and environmental reports and provide recommendations to project teams and contractors.
  • Manage turnover documentation and milestone completion requirements.
  • Review and provide technical input on change orders, contractor notices, milestone certifications, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other Project Engineers to promote consistency, best practices, and continuous improvement across the project portfolio.
  • Prepare weekly project reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Prior experience working as a Field Engineer or Project Engineer on utility-scale solar construction projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of renewable energy generation systems, solar facilities, construction methods, and electrical power systems.
  • Experience supporting large-scale EPC construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution and transmission systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
Required Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, Bluebeam, scheduling software, and SAP.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Virginia erosion and sediment control (E&S) and stormwater regulations.
  • Experience with project scheduling and cost management.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities for renewable energy facilities.
  • Familiarity with project controls, change management, and contractor performance management.
Work Environment
  • Assigned to a Construction Project Manager within the Construction Projects organization.
  • Approximately 75% or more travel to active solar construction sites throughout Virginia.
  • Regular field work in active construction environments.
  • Frequent interaction with contractors, engineers, operations personnel, and project stakeholders.
