Prepress Operator
Location: Cambridge, MA
Pay Rate: Up to $22/hr DOE
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Reprographics Assistant II will work independently and as part of team and will set-up and operate complex digital print equipment, maintaining accurate records of work performed and ensuring quality control standards have been met. In addition, this position is responsible for client relations with staff, students, and faculty; and for providing high quality products and services to the community including deliveries.
As a Reprographics Assistant II you will: Operate complex, state-of-the-art color and black and white high speed printers, digital scanning and network print technology including extensive hand placement and litigation work. Knowledge of software platforms including Windows. Knowledge of PDF and Postscript file structures preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have strong and proven customer service skills including experience with consulting with customers on job specifications.
Responsibilities:
• Perform inventory management including course materials
• Perform maintenance on copy machines
• Utilize specialized knowledge of the print industry to consult with and advise clients on print orders, independently responding to client questions related to pricing, job status, and product information
• Develop workflow processes.
• Assist students with their course materials.
• Carry out billing and other related administrative procedures
• Cross-train in all aspects of the Copy Center and rotate job responsibilities including daily deliveries and pick-ups
• Provide clients with graphic design support
• Follow copying protocol (copyright law, confidentiality, and careful handling of original documents)
Qualifications:
• High school graduate or equivalent, preferably with some general business/secretarial training
• One year of related technical experience required, preferably in a copy production environment. Education beyond high school may count toward experience
• Knowledge of software platforms including Windows
• Knowledge of PDF and Postscript file structures preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must have strong and proven customer service skills including experience with consulting with customers on job specifications.
Additional Information:
• During peak work periods (two 6-week periods each academic year), a seasonal second shift will be shared among staff
• Overtime may also be required from time to time on nights or weekends
• Vacation time must be taken outside peak work periods.
