The Operations Performance Graphic Designer & Communications Strategist position will be responsible for assisting in leading the visual communications work associated with all Operations Performance projects. As an expert in design software applications (namely Adobe Illustrator and InDesign), as well as HTML and CSS, this individual will utilize his/her diverse education and skillset to assist in identifying ideal technology solutions (per project and main user group), and constructing design templates (and a project-specific general design guide) for the Operations Performance Executive Team. This individual will participate in the decision making process regarding the concept, scope, and development of all visual material associated with Operations Performance (digital, strategy, culture and executive) projects.

This individual will work collaboratively with the Operations Performance Design Thinking and Analytics Operations Leadership team in leading the visionary responsibilities associated with concept/general design, and execution/production for successful and timely project completion. As such, this individual must have the ability to make both independent decisions regarding visual communications work and also actively participate in a cross-functional team of both Leadership and various SMEs throughout the organization. Graphic Designer & Communications Strategist develops and executes strategy and activation plans to enable the realization of business benefits and future state visions. The Graphic Designer & Communications Strategist will apply a structured approach to organizational change management and focus on increasing adoption of solutions and benefits realization supporting Operations Performance Transformation initiatives. Additionally, the Graphic Designer & Communications Strategist works across Operations to understand existing and emerging technology implementations; provides communication and marketing support; creates and executes internal marketing campaigns and supporting collateral; and evaluates effectiveness by measuring awareness, adoption and satisfaction with the new technologies.

The Graphic Designer & Communications Strategist will provide consulting and support to digital products and project teams to ensure that the appropriate level of change management, communication, and marketing is planned, executed and measured for a wide range of initiatives including strategic planning, Operations Performance Transformation project implementation and operational support. This role primarily focuses on small- to medium-sized changes, marketing campaigns and operational efforts, and may receive coaching from more experienced team members.

Location: Hybrid role - expect up to 10 days/month onsite in Jackson, MI
Pay Rate: $40-$50/hr

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Participate in leading all visionary work associated with (both current and prospective) Operations Performance/Operations projects, to include proposing project-specific technology solutions (i.e., HTML vs. Adobe InDesign) as well as general design components and stylistic decisions
  • Use change management methodologies and strategies, communication planning, organizational readiness assessment and stakeholder analyses to develop and execute vision, strategy and activation plans for technology changes and operational efforts
  • Design and develop effective communications such as newsletters, articles, emails, intranet content, presentations, videos, job aids and FAQs to promote and prepare for new technology, policies and processes specific to targeted stakeholder groups. Creates and coordinates the development of advertising/marketing communications materials through creative design and creative writing services to effectively represent the projects, programs and/or applications. Applies various communication strategies to create a positive impression, raise awareness, and encourage a preference and response by the target audience for the organization. Develops and coordinates multimedia packages (e.g., one-pagers, presentations, videos, intranet content, digital signage, articles, posters, direct mail).
    • Develop all design templates and participate in leading all style decisions regarding graphical content
    • Participate in developing a project-specific plan for standardizing the style of all design-related material
    • Develop a project-specific design style guide for all graphical content o Meet project milestones and deadlines for completing project graphic design work
    • Develop and/or utilize electronic file organization, storage, and team (as well as SME) review/approvals
  • Collaborate with cross functional team SMEs on graphical content development and appropriate technology solutions – Digital Product Strategies across Electric, Gas and Shared Services. Responsible for successful execution of campaigns by ensuring timely and accurate completion of campaign deliverables. Provides strategic counsel for multiple stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Monitors, analyzes and summarizes business, operations, change management and marketing campaign data in order to develop business intelligence, optimize effectiveness and/or predict outcomes. Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns and prepares ongoing reports and data visualizations (e.g., charts, dashboards, heat maps) in order to support organization decisions.
  • Develop and maintain self-service communication templates and tools for Operations Performance use and write articles to share knowledge with other change practitioners
Skills:
  • 2-4+ years of experience
  • Technical background/education in visual communications and graphic design software tools and complex design skillset
  • Ability to understand Electric & Gas Operations, Shared Services work and translate technical material into more visual products
  • Excellent graphic design skills
  • Ability to translate technical material to effective visual content for regulatory documentation
  • Possess diverse skillset in design and web-oriented software/tools
  • Ability to research and identify ideal technological solutions for project platform construction; translate experience and education in a variety of both design and web oriented software tools into proposed solutions (on a project-by-project basis)
  • Excellent editing skills; detail oriented
  • Ability to design complex technical visual content
  • Experience building change management strategies, creating communications, internal marketing and advertising strategies, creating marketing collateral and training deliverables, and executing plans to support change initiatives; experience facilitating discussions with leaders and technical teams to determine the best plan to market, communicate and improve adoption; and experience collaborating across teams and organizations to achieve desired outcomes.
Education:
  • Bachelor degree; ideally in Visual Communications, Graphics Design or comparable design related area of study.
  • Preferred Organizational Change Management, Communications, Marketing, Organizational Psychology, Business, or Technology, Strategic Thinking
