POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Audit and Tax Services Director will assist in effectively meeting company objectives by advising management regarding the effectiveness of company operations, internal controls and financial reporting matters. The Director also assists management in building an effective Enterprise Risk Management system by assessing risks, monitoring risk management activities and coordinating risk management steering committee meetings. The Director will direct and oversee the BMCHS tax policies and objectives including monitoring, reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes.  The Director will ensure accuracy of all tax returns and work to minimize the organization’s tax obligation.  The Audit and Tax Services Director will report to the Controller.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

 

Responsible for managing all aspects of the audit and tax services.  Specific job duties include the following: 

 

 

 

Lead the daily activities of the Audit function and staff to ensure:

Completion of the annual audit plan and management requested engagements.

Completion of all tax filings including but not limited to the annual 990 tax filings.

Quality, accuracy and efficiency of audit engagements.

Identification of improvement opportunities and development of value-added recommendations.

Compliance with applicable internal audit industry and Audit Services quality department standards.

Lead the daily activities of the Tax function and staff to ensure:

Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms to ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business related filings.

Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.

Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.

Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.

Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects

Coordinate risk management and control assessment process and develop and execute audit plans based on assessment results.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with management across all operating areas.

Act as a resource to management to continuously identify risks and improve internal controls.

Perform or manage financial, operational, compliance and technology audits, and consulting engagements.

Identify opportunities to leverage technology to expand the efficiency and effectiveness of the Audit and Tax Services function.

Ensure results of audit projects are properly communicated to senior management and operations personnel directly involved with department projects and monitor remediation efforts.

Assist internal and external auditors and client auditors and perform related duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:

 

 

 

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from four?year college or university required; Master’s Degree Optional

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

 

 

 

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required; Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Optional;

EXPERIENCE:

 

 

 

At least 10 years related experience and/or training 

Experience with accounting software, inter?fund accounting for subsidiary entities; nonprofit accounting preferred 

Experience with Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills
